Meet Meyrick Bowker

Meyrick Bowker is known for offering exclusive, family-only hunting safaris. When you hunt with him, you and your group are the only guests in camp. There are no other hunters to share the lodge or the hunting grounds with, giving you the freedom to shape your days exactly as you wish.

This private approach ensures complete focus from your Professional Hunter, personalized planning for each hunt, and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere in camp where you can unwind without distraction.

A Legacy Rooted in the Eastern Cape

Meyrick Bowker is a professional hunter, sixth-generation rancher, and dedicated conservationist based at Thornkloof, his family’s historic ranch in Grahamstown (Makhanda), Eastern Cape, South Africa. Thornkloof has been the Bowker family’s home since 1843, representing over 180 years of stewardship and connection to the land. Meyrick proudly continues this legacy, blending authentic African hunting traditions with modern wildlife management.

From Early Hunting Roots to Licensed Professional

Licensed as a Professional Hunter since 1993 and a Dangerous Game Professional Hunter since 1996, Meyrick’s path was shaped from childhood. He grew up hunting alongside his father, Frank Bowker, one of the first professional hunters and outfitters in the Eastern Cape. Frank worked with the legendary Chappie Scott to pioneer guided hunting in the region, laying the foundations for what would become one of the most trusted names in family hunting packages in South Africa.

Meyrick joined Bowker Safaris in 1993 and became the owner in 2012, continuing the family’s reputation for delivering exceptional South African family hunt deals, South Africa family hunt packages, and family hunting safari South Africa experiences to hunters from around the world.

Expanding Horizons – International Guiding Experience

From 1996 to 2000, Meyrick expanded his skills internationally, guiding big game hunts in Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. These expeditions saw him successfully pursue elk, whitetail deer, mule deer, and pronghorn antelope.

His hunting experience also spans Hawai‘i, Georgia, and Texas, as well as dangerous game throughout most South African provinces, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. This international exposure has given Meyrick exceptional insight into wildlife behaviour, terrain navigation, and conservation best practices—expertise he now shares with clients booking family hunting packages in the Eastern Cape.

Nick Bowker Hunting
works in close cooperation with Meyrick Bowker of Bowker Safaris to bring hunters a broader and more varied range of African hunting opportunities than ever before, including exclusive packages offered by Bowker Safaris—both Meyrick and Nick Bowker market on the same website.

In addition to exclusive family plains game hunts, Meyrick specialises in dangerous game, bow hunting, and world-class wing shooting.

Kind Regards
Bowker African Hunts

Meyrick, I am interested in a 2027 DG hunt.

I have had the pleasure to not only hunt with Meyrick but also meet his wonderful family, tour the homestead, etc. He inspires confidence in his clients with a quiet professionalism and tailors each hunt to your desires, capabilities and conditions.
Any questions please feel free to DM me and I will be happy to assist in anyway possible. I give my wholehearted recommendation.

Meyrick, we met while I was hunting with Ben Pringle and Nick Bowker back in July 2023; other AH members @Hogpatrol and @markm were there as well. Enjoyed meeting you then! Congrats on your outfitting offering and welcome to Africa Hunting. Remember this guy hanging onto a cull kudu when we were loading it in the truck.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
