Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any experience importing hunting rifles into the US. Who did they use, cost, experience, lessons learned... Thank you,

Jim

Yes. I have a bit of (non-commercial) first-hand experience.

Would like to know how to obtain rifles from E gun.de

I imported a German double rifle through Canada earlier this year. It was a very smooth informative process that took about 4 weeks in total from the time that Borderview received the rifle. Cost with inport tariff, their fee, processing and shipping was $1600 on at 25K purchase.

I depends on the country, the willingness of your FFL and other variables. My experience dates to about 20 years ago. When I had a C&R license, I imported one myself from the UK. Another, I had a local FFL help import one and others had an importer involved. At that time and unless things have changed, a normal FFL or C&R holder can on occasion import a gun directly.

With a German gun, it might be easier due to language issues get an importer involved. They might be able to add your gun to a shipment and it might not be a big deal.

There is a company out of Mobile, AL that is importing guns from Germany and it might be an easy to contact them and see what they can do. I have met the US side of the operation briefly and have had no dealings with them. http://www.german-gun-imports.com/About-us/Contact/Information/

One thing to remember is that their gun laws and ours are not the some and what may be fine here for a 12 yo to play with is a weapon of mass destruction there. The British export form had something along the lines of this device will not be used for nuclear or biological warfare.

I can advise you on this - have bought multiple guns from egun.de.

First thing, recommend you reach out to several German weapons exporters, and pick one you want to work with. Many, not all, but many sellers will be willing ship the gun to a German export company to ship overseas. Given working with Germans about weapons, they can be a little balkly (understandably so, given the rules governing weapons in this country) from an American perspective. However, if you've got a company and a point of contact willing to have a short conversation with a seller and confirm, this will help smooth your path ahead. A number of sellers will advertise shipment overseas (dealers, etc) available, but many won't. This is common sense, but reach out and write the seller before hand, explain your situation and ask for what you want. I typically use deepl.com to communicate, which can be very helpful if the seller isn't super comfortable in English. I've found a number of folks will work with you to make a deal happen, if you only communicate (and in German).

For a U.S. based importer, I used a British expat named Peter Johansen. psejohansen@gmail.com / peter@ep-international.biz. He was really solid, and very professional, easy to work with, even when I needed the shipment changed last minute.

Finally - use gunfinder.de. Adds in other sites. Egun is awesome, but if you're looking for a very specific model (say, a Merkel 303 - ) you'll want to use Gunfinder.de. Scours about five-six websites to pull everything together. But... you may find poorly marketed bargains on Egun. Ex: I bought a stunning Merkel 203E with gold inlays, high finish gloss, etc for just over $3k. Probably worth x2 or x3 in value, but the seller had terrible photos. So, do your shopping.

Not a rifle, but just did this with a pistol (P08). Contact me via PM if you'd like the details.

Thank you for all the advice.
