I think a thread on the subject similar to the NRA tv show segment. This old gun.

I traded into a custom Argentine 30:06 Mauser Berlin stamped. last weekend.

It has no sling mounts or scope mounts.

Shilen barrel
Timney trigger
Model 70 safety
Front barrel and rear peep sight

Hidden floor plate and release
Custom stock.

My question. Should I have a barrel band sling mount and scope mounts added ?
Or leave it as a more classic styled PG rifle .

Looks great, congrats on the new add!

Nice little rifle.

Since it has no collector value, you should finish it as you would prefer to use it. For me that would include a telescopic sight. Regrettably, scoping options are limited with the Lyman sight in place.

I have a similar rifle on a FN Mauser action in .375 that uses a Griffin & Howe dismountable side mount, but that is a rather expensive solution for the Lyman sight.

Custom .375 FN Action Rifle

Were it mine, it would have barrel band stud installed and have it checkered in a simple pattern like a pre-war British rifle. With the peep it would have a lot of the flavor of an express rifle in a smaller but quite elegant package.

If the peep becomes problematic which can easily be an issue on a deer stand early or late, then remove the Lyman, install Talley bases and rings and it will still be an elegant rifle, and perhaps a bit more practical.

It looks like a real keeper, for sure !

Beautiful wood.

Like others have said, you have options here. How you answer the following questions will help you decide what course of action is best for you. What do you plan to hunt with this rifle, what distances will you most likely be shooting, what type of terrain will you be hunting in, how well do you shoot peep sights? Do you already have other rifles that are scoped?

If it were me I would probably not scope it. Retain the classic lines.
Beautiful rifle as is.

That rifle needs a 20MOA Piccatinny Rail 5.5-22x56 Nightforce and a Laser/Flashlight combo and it would be slick!

Nice find!

I think if I sold it. It would be as it is. If I keep it. I’ll do as Phillip suggested

Barrel band sling mount.
Checking
And scope mounts.

Only your eyes can answer that question. For me these days it means an optic.

Great rifle. The Argentine actions are wonderful, among the best. The bore will be 7.65mm rather than 7.62mm, but most shoot just fine (mine did). I loaded a relatively fast powder with 220 grain Partitions. I was looking for the base to upset to fill the bore and it worked.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
