Hunting Uganda

The hunts in Uganda are certainly not the most expensive in Africa, but the charter flights that were offered to me without any alternative have already driven up the price of a hunt on a 1x1 basis considerably, but this also applies to other hunting areas in Africa.

I've hunted Uganda twice in last 2 years. I would highly recommend it. I've hunted all the major areas
they offer. Great group to work with. Weather this year did not allow use to charter out of Karamoja.
Note February is the driest month of the year, but this year it was green everywhere and in 16 hunting days we had some rain all but 4. This is extremely unusual!

Why don’t you contact him for pricing before you make too many more assumptions? I find advertised Uganda pricing very confusing but much more clear (and affordable) after receiving quotes from outfitters. My charter next week is $2100.

These are not assumptions; we were planning a hunt in Karamoja North for early this year. That involved significantly more than $2,000 USD for the charter. Divided among several people, it would have been doable. Unfortunately, nothing came of it because we were only two hunter interested.

By the way, it is not just about talking about hunts you would like to do but for many reasons never do. The unrealized hunt in Uganda did not stop me from booking at short notice an elephant hunt and to shoot one a few weeks ago. Uganda will come again someday, with or without charter flight,...if I live long enough and stay healthy.

The man offered to drive you to avoid a charter if that’s really a deal breaker for you. If you won’t accept advice you are making assumptions.

I know Uganda is famous for shear number of buffalo, but what else is it known for? Any specific plains game or other big 5?

I don't understand where this discussion is drifting in.

So far, I have not negotiated with Spear Safaris about hunting in Uganda and therefore have not rejected any offers.

Lots depending on the area and quotas. Sitatunga, Uganda kob, topi, Roan, oribi, big East African impala, Nile bushbuck, East African bushbuck, zebra, maneless zebra, dik dik, Bohor reedbuck, lesser kudu, bushbig, warthog, hyena, Paterson eland, Jackson hartebeest, defassa waterbuck, and few others.

I have hunted Uganda twice with UWS in Aswa Lolim, the Kafu River Basin camp and Karamoja and can report there is no finer East African hunting that I am aware of. A beautiful, welcoming country, large populations of quality game and Ernest would be a delightful gentleman to hunt with. I met him a few years ago at Johnny DuPlooy's house in Zambia. Uganda is a country I can recommend without reservation!

I don't know why, but there is a particular atmosphere surrounding this topic again. This does more harm than good.

Last December I had a guy with his .500 double that needed a shot no further than 50 yards.
This proved to be real hard, we crawled to within 70 and 80 yards quite a few times, but that 40 to 50 yards range was hard.
We did eventually luck out on two dagga boys in the along grass at 30 yards and took one of them.
One thing I can say, I've never been able to spot a large herd, get out of the car and walk top to them and choose one. The hunting is not extremely hard, but it is still hunting.
below is out Bull in the long grass.

As someone without much knowledge as to the general cost of hunting Uganda. What would a typical 10+ Day Buffalo/Plains game safari look like. I think it might be helpful for people who just want to know without filling your dms to see a general cost range on the general chat.

A 7 day 8 night, Buffalo and basic plainsgame will be around $20 500.00, Hunting 1x1. excl charter if you wanted it, generally we drive in from Kampala.

I hunted Karamoja last March with UWS and it was an amazing hunt! I took two buffalo and an oribi, and my girlfriend (now wife) took a buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, and reedbuck. We have a few other hunts booked at the moment, but will definitely go back to Karamoja when we get a chance.
