Hey friends...need help selecting scope rings

Hi all,
Was recently in Zim hunting Matetsi 2 (hunt report to follow) and my PH needs an assist. He's got a post-64 WInchrster M70 in .375 H&H. He had a Swaro Habicht 1.25-4x24 scope he wants to put on it with a 30mm tube. The bases and rings that came on the rifle are 1 inch Leupolds so he will likely need to start from scratch. Looking at Warne rings Im trying to help him get situated so we can send along a package with another hunter later this year. Will medium height Warne rings work with this scope and the bolt throw on a model 70? I had to use high rings on my CZ because the ocular end of my Trijicon scope was too fat so thats what I am trying to avoid for him. Getting rings there is a pain so I cant use my standard approach of "order 2 sets and send back what doesn't work".

I use Talley bases and rings on all my Model 70s with great success.

Thinking about height here and not brand. Is there a way to determine if a medium height ring will be tall enough that when the bolt handle comes up it won't get interfered with by the eyeballs end of the scope?

Best bet for what you’re trying to accomplish is to phone the manufacturer of the base & rings you decide on and talk with technical staff.

Sounds good. I was thinking that was a good path but didnt know if someone had another way. Appreciate the note. I will progress that way.

Honestly, I’d lean medium and not look back. The Habicht is a pretty trim scope by modern standards.

Try using the scope mounts 3D Configurator, and you will quickly see what ring height you need and how the bolt handle clears the scope.

The best way I have found to do this is to use pennies (or some other coin) or washers. Something with consistent sizing per spacer. Stack an equal number of each under the front tube and back tube (where the scope rings would go). Add more pennies/washers, or take away more pennies/washers until you get the scope height that works the best. Measure your stack of spacers and compare that to the scope ring manufacturers specs to get the best height rings.

I use medium Warne rings on all of my 8 Model 70 with Swarovski scopes.
