Help Please...9.3x62 Makes No Sense

I read and reread this post thinking my dyslexia was getting to me again, if it has I apologize; the case length for this cartridge is 2.44" not 1.19".

The OP corrected the mistake in post #3.

I am using QL to help me with my first reloads for my new 9.3X62. QL says using Ram Shot Big Game powder I can have 65 grains and have a 96.2% fill rate producing 2529 FPS. The case length is correct at 1.19 inches. The problem is 65 grains overflows the case!!!!! I want to use the Speer 270 grain Hot Cor for my leopard hunt but with the above am having problems.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks!
Rare Breed, Big Game is a good choice but use caution. I tried it and my rifle didn't like it at all! I was 3.5grn below published max data and was getting pressure signs and sticky bolt lift and extraction. Frankly there is no reason to exceed 2400-2450fps (especially) if you plan on using the 270grn Speer. Good bullet but very soft which has a tendency to come apart at higher velocities.
I use 58.0grn RL-15 which chronographs 2380-2400fps from my 22in. barrel using Swift 286grn A-Frames and North Fork Solids. Slightly above factory velocities but has been taking big game for a very long time.

This is pretty much exactly what GRT gives. GRT indicates (using default specs) that 65gr is a bit over max pressure - but should give about 97% casefill. Something sounds off if the powder is overflowing the case completely - maybe just double-check/validate your scale in case something is miles off.

You should be on an accuracy node at just above 64gr (64.1gr, using the default settings) at a speed of 2,500ft/s.

Next node down is at 61.4gr at a speed of 2,402 ft/s. I think this is where I'd play, if I were you. If 2,400 ft/s won't get the job done, then 2,500 won't either.
I have 2 scales since mine are onky accurate to .1 grain if they dont both read the same i adjust till they do.

Its possible he didnt calibrate before using

What brass are you using?

If my memory serves me is that hornaday and privi have the most volume and RWS and Nosler the least.

Have you checked what you can get for max over all length with the bullet you are planning on using? most 9.3x62 have a fairly long throat.

I would drop to 60gr and work up from there.
Nosler. I’m rechecking my scale since 65 grains according to my hand scale exceeds the capacity of my case when I loaded two of them

I’m using the Speer bullet for my leopard given softer bullet with rapid expansion.

lol!!! I did long ago but did not check…that is the problem…recalibrated and good to go!!! Thanks!!! Some times we take the basics for granted and don’t recheck

If John Barsness loaded that bullet to 64 grains as above then I would consider that as max and work up to it. Of course, your rifle with your components may not be safe at 64 grains.

Also, case brands and case lots can vary in capacity. You might try a different case if available.

Check JB's asterisk (*) note for the 270 gr Speer load in the image that I posted above:

"An asterisk (*) denotes a "deer load," somewhat reduced in velocity from maximum, ..."

John B. is noting that his 270 gr Speer load has almost the same point of impact as his 286 gr Nosler Partition load that uses 66.0 grains of Big Game powder.

Cheers! Bob F.
