Hello from Shetland

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
My family and I visited Namibia with a couple that stay here in Shetland that are originally from Namibia and still have property in Namibia. We were there a month and managed to pack a lot in.
We did a lot of camping in various places visiting friends of our friends and doing a bit of hunting as we went. Most places we visited were farms with quite a few employees that need fed so the animals I shot were purely for meat, no serious hunting and no trophies but still absolutely amazing to be part of. Coming from Shetland where the biggest mammal is a hare and after reading countless books on hunting in Africa it really was a dream come true to be among these amazing animals and people, and being able to help prepare the animals after the shot right up to the braai at night.
I was able to borrow a rifle for the month I was there, a brand new mauser M18 in 308win. A very accurate gun that served me well, with 165gr winchester ballistic silver tips I shot zebra, kudu, springbok, oryx and warthog. The rifle had a hawke scope that I was not sure of at first but really did prove itself, after hours of driving on rough roads with it packed in a trailer it was bang on zero overtime I checked. This combination really did serve me well while I was there.
Here in Shetland the main hunting I do is wildfowling. I love to shoot ducks and geese but my favourite form of shooting here is walked up snipe with my labrador Tilda.
Usually once or twice a year I will try and get away to the mainland for some deer stalking. My favourite deer to stalk is roe deer. Not very big but a very beautiful deer that is very tasty.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Welcome. My father did some work back in the late 1970s in the North Sea. Our family lived in London and my father commuted to a community in the Orkney Islands called Kirkwall. As I recall, the winter weather can be brutal. Tell us about your time in Africa.

Welcome to AH!

Welcome aboard, awesome start!

Hi. My name is James. I am from Shetland, a tiny island in the North Sea.

After being in Namibia for a month last July/August with friends I am more fascinated with Africa than ever before and cannot wait to return. No easy task coming from Shetland.

Here at home I enjoy shooting as much as I can, wildfowl in the winter then I focus more on the rifles and reloading in the summer.

While we were in Namibia I was lucky enough to do some hunting with friends of our friends and enjoyed every minute of it. We travelled around and did a lot of camping, the kids loved it. I hope we dont have to wait too long before we can return and get that red sand in our boots again.

Hello James Adamson,

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
