Sheltered or not...I don't need a gun to feel safe.

I'll assume you lead a sheltered life out of the mainstream of America. Academia maybe?

So your argument that I am out of touch with main street America is that I am really smart AND really well educated...thank you for the compliment!

Recent news flash: Oklahoma governor vetos gun bill to allow concealed carry with no permit, draws the ire of NRA.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mary-f...nstitutional-carry-bill-nra-today-2018-05-11/

I haven't been following this, but my initial impression is she made the right call. I am in favor of a permitting system for concealed carry and don't want everyone packing without training, testing and background check. JMHO.

I agree that concealed carry should be regulated....with the obvious exception of mechanics as their jobs are so inherently dangerous

You know...without an emoji after that post, someone might just come along and think you are an arrogant ass.

Might want to fix that.

You making a judgement about how the post MIGHT be interpreted without the emoji...when the emoji was IN FACT attached...might make someone come along and think you are....

Might want to fix that.

Scott. I think point is that people that work at dangerous jobs might want to consider carrying a gun. No one has said you have to carry a gun. Only that if you want to you should be able. Proper training etc etc. come up with a better way to protect school children from psychos. Please answer that question if you are so smart as our claim. But do not tell me banning something I’ll work. Look at London and banning of guns and now they have a knife problem. or the recent attack in Australia.

You have been on this forum for awhile so you do know that unlike other social media sites we treat everyone with respect first.

Above I believe the comment was meant to say you violated that rule.

But to get back to point, Arming teachers is a valid proposal. I would like to hear others, other than banning. Cause that doesn’t work except in socialist minds.

Please excuse any typos. I am on an iPhone after Mother’s Day.

You're too funny. Sorry to say those two attributes rarely coexist with wisdom and common sense.

I'm in favor of banning Scott. He's got pretty much nothing to contribute to this thread. I think almost everything I've read with his name has been at least bordering on trolling.

ANYWAY!
I agree teachers and anyone else willing should be allowed conceal carry in the workplace. I keep trying to get my EMS director to approve me. I've heard rumor there's a bill in Indianapolis that may allow that for us. I'd even be willing to spend my own money on ammo for qualification shooting.

The answers to why arning teachers is a TERRIBLE idea have been shared here and many places. I won’t go into ALL of the reasons, but I can share some highlights off the top of my head:

  1. There is VERY good dtata (I too am on a phone and heve limited access, so I can’t provide the links...just do a google search of police shooting statistics) that shows that HIGHLY-TRAINED police offices (and military) perform HORRIBLY when called upon to shoot (from memory less than 20 % hit rate). And that data ONLY addresses the proficiency when they shoot...it does not take into account when they freeze up and do not engage.

  2. People typically do not accidently become police officers. They intentioanlly decide to put thier lives on the line to protect others...to carry a gun...and to take a life if called upon. I do not know a single officer who does not take that responsibility lightly. They work long hours that include systematic and specialized training in how to use their weapon, when to use their weapon…. And VERY importatnly when NOT to use their weapon. Thier supivisors and support staff have experience in the same job and have specialized training in supporting and managing the job. Police are VERY special people and are to be celebrated.

  3. People typically do not accidently become teachers. They intentioanlly decide to put students first...focusing on student learning, social development, moral development, etc. They work long hours that include systemtiac and specialized training in how students learn, classroom management, technology, etc. I seldomed worked less than 60 hours a week but found time to earn 4 additional degrees after becoming a teacher...simply in search of being the best teacher that I could be. My story is not unique. Teachers are VERY special people and are to be celebrated.

  4. Police and teachers are VERY different public servants who have dedicated their lives to searving others….in VERY different ways.

  5. NO ONE should be allowed to carry a weapon on campus without equivalent or better initial and continuing training than police officers (which will get them to the 20 % hit rate, which stll leaves 80% of the bullets bouncing around the school). Additionally, they need to have supervisors and support staff that understand the implications to carry a weapon and being prepared to take the life of another human being. It is a VERY rare teacher who is committed to adding the training...and an even MORE rare administrator who is capable and willing to add the supervision responsibility to their jobs.

I know that people will be able to come up with anectdotal examples of teachers who WANT to carry a gun to school and whom they think would be able. That is all good on a discussion board… but I am talking REAL policy and the polcy MUST be directed to the whole...not the exceptions. My experience in working with schools in rural Texas and Georgia, and urban Texas that teachers ...on average....are not dispositionally suited to carry guns and schools are WAY to chaotic to intentionally add guns to the matrix.

After you ban Scott...you can ban books...original ideas...anything doesn't fit into your narrow definition of the world.

Because a teacher's job is to TEACH students NOT SHOOT them!
Last time I checked, shooting cars didn’t fix them. The mechanics at work have managed to not shoot the trucks they work on for over 20 years, or the idiot drivers that keep running them after the oil or coolant temp redlines.
Why are teachers different? Are they prone to fire of rage? Can teachers not control their emotions? Genuinely curious here, on why mechanics, gas station clerks, farmers, pipelayers, electricians can all manage to not shoot people they are not supposed to, but teachers will randomly start shooting students.

I'm not sure a ban is in order for someone expressing their opinions, but perhaps once again a moderator can step into this thread, which falls under Humerous Jokes, Pictures or Stories, and move the comments not related to that into a more appropriate category. I understand that has been done once before. It would seem that the title being Gun Control draws the inevitable political discussion.

I agree and disagree with you. I started this thread for the humor aspect but.... as you stated the obvious happened but I’m ok with that. As I also could foresee this happening and feel it is a good spot to have a reasonable conversation over the topic.
I also agree that banning Scott isn’t the answer either just because he shares a different view point than myself and many others. That’s the great thing about freedom of speech and having an open forum.
What bothers me is that emotionally charged topics such as this one, CBL, and Hornady Ammo :)LOL::LOL::LOL:) tend to start a shit slinging contest as opposed to a reasonable debate. In truth I’m at times guilt of a little shit slinging myself.

Not a deliberate troll, just someone who trots out selected facts to fit his narrative. It's the hallmark of an academic.

I believe if we use this forum like we do the DSC AH get-together dinner, we will all be fine. If you can imagine yourself, your spouse all sitting at a table enjoying a mediocre meal together, would you make these comments? If you wouldn't make them to their face, don't make them here. If you would, someone needs to skip the next AH dinner....

Mule deer and Colorado elk seasons almost done! Hunters driving farm roads, looking for racks, their PH driving them along, I ask that you not pull into my drive. The buck behind me, on the boundary line of the GMU somehow knows. The hunter laughs, I would invite you in to see my Searcy rifles but social distancing prevails, darkness arrives and the buck slides away into secret tree grove...

Good morning friends

i‘ve taken to heart a suggestion to tell my story about a lion hunt 37 years ago. ‘I don’t know, but am thinking there are site rules as to posting and file type. Three of the four posts (chapters?) are done, I took time away from here to write up the story. I have a couple of photos too.

also, I’m going to dissemble the rifles and see if Butch may have signed them. I’ll let you know.
