w or w/o sights makes no change to pricing on Blaser barrels

I agree, at the 10k price mark there are a plethora of options.. Enough to make a mans head hurt trying to choose!
You will probably want to scope both barrels, which means two scope mounts, I know they aren’t exactly inexpensive plus a Selous or standard barrel, roughly $3–4K with the magazine, and of course two scopes.

The .300 Win Mag barrel shown in the video doesn’t have sights, so that one could not be used as-is.

And your last statement is probably in-accurate, this is not one one package deal except for the case.

By the time you add everything up, you’re easily into the $10K+ range before even considering the scopes. At that price point, IMHO, there are plethora of choices.

And that doesn't count all the additional barrels, scopes, and another platform or two. Ask me how I know. But if one is going to have a firearm addiction, it might as well be to the finest production rifle in the market.

I do not always use one of my R8 combinations (though I could for anything I can think of just now). But if I am traveling, particularly by air, I have rarely grabbed anything else for the last 15 years or so. They are accurate, ergonomically perfect, compact, and practically indestructible. Moreover, the great folks at EuroOptic are the best place to start.

And yes, under 5K for a new Blaser .375 in the new livery is a great offer. And I am also pretty sure the good folks at Parkwest aren't going to include a set of mounts or Swaro Z8 with a new SD-76.

I can certainly understand the appeal of the R8, especially if you travel frequently. The accuracy, ergonomics, and ability to configure it for different cartridges are hard to argue with.

For me, though, there are a few things that keep me from going down the R8 or Sauer route. I do own a Sauer 404 in 9.3X62 though.
I’m not particularly fond of synthetic stocks, and I also tend to look at the long-term ownership side of things. The lack of backward compatibility with some future configurations, along with the way the platform can depreciate when newer versions come along, doesn't particularly appeal to me.

I tend to prefer a rifle that I can buy once, keep for decades, and still have essentially the same rifle and value years down the road.

As for the Blaser .375 at under $5K, I agree that's an attractive package and Europtic is a great source.
I was close to ordering a Parkwest before I went a different route, great to deal with as well. They dont come with mounts, but if you like to have case hardened they will gladly include the rings for you.

For those looking the Cabela’s in Buda, TX had a 375/300WM 2 barrel set for $5999 the other day.

They had a bunch last year but sold out. Not sure if they “found” one more.

I just sorted this.
I sold my 458 Lott and 500 Jeff last year when they started hurting me too much. I'm 68 and I've had prostate cancer since I was 60 (in remission) so I won't get more robust in the future.
My African solution is a Sauer 404 with 404 Jeff and 300WM barrels. This is my first in both calibres. I've always been a 300WBY fan and have owned several. I have a WJ Jeffery DR in 450-400 3" and it's a delight to shoot in a 10lb rifle. The 404 Jeff has very similar ballistics to the 400 Jeff and the Sauer weighs 10lb. Both barrels have iron sights and QD scopes. I reckon this is the perfect combo.

You’ve made some prudent choices there.
I had actually considered buying a .404 Jeffery barrel for my Sauer, but that would have meant adding a magnum bolt head (mine is currently a 9.3x62), a magazine, and Sauer scope mounts as well. By the time everything was added up, I was looking at roughly $3,500 i.e assuming I could even find the components here in the US.
Ultimately, I decided it made more sense to keep things simple and have a one gun arsenal in .375 H&H. Less overlap, fewer components to chase down, and one rifle that covers a pretty broad range of hunting applications.

JME & O, but after 4 trips only taking my MRC in 375 H&H taking game from Duiker to Cape Buffalo and lots in between it was light enough to carry all day and accurate enough (everything under 1 MOA) for everything out to 400 yards. Sadly my Africa days are most likely done as well as mountain hunting so it went away.
Hard to go wrong with an accurate 375 H&H for anything on earth IMO.
Good luck in your search!

A solid, shootable solution for the one gun set-up.

I can still handle my .404 Jeff’s felt-recoil as loaded to original Jeff ballistics with the 400grn bullet. In fact, the DG load I developed does 1” @ 100yds, so it’s accuracy overkill on, say, Buff and certainly anything bigger. But Rigby-level recoil is just not in the cards for me anymore. Getting older is what it is.

That said, I’m sure there’ll come a day when even the big .404 gets retired in favor of a rifle I can still shoot well enough for a mixed DG & PG hunt. That would be my .375 also, ….. unless the trip’s strictly for PG in which case I’d take my .350 Rem Mag.

The .350RM will kill PG just as well as the .375 out to 200yds or so, but the difference is in the platform: a 9.8lb, 24” BRNO 602 or an 8lb (barely), 20” Remington M660.

One rifle for PG and DG, you say. Yes, I suppose one could. But what’s the fun in that! I can understand why the double 470 NE might not be the most practical rifle for you in the future. If I were you I would:

1. Sell the 470
2. Buy a Rigby or Heym in 404 Jeffery or 416 Rigby
3. Sell the 270 because you have a better alternative in the 30-06
4. Keep the 338 and 9.3 because a man needs more than one or two good rifles.

If I was going to sell and replace all of them with one rifle, it would be a Parkwest or Rigby in 375 H&H.

I have a 375 Weatherby that fits the bill for a one rifle set up. 1MOA at 100 yards. Flat shooting. 250 to 350 gr bullets. 250 Gr pushing 2950ish fps and the 350 TSX at 2550fps. Drop at 200 yards 3in for the 250 and 5 in for the 350. If your ammo was lost going to africa you can use 375 H&H with no material loss in accuracy. Just a little more drop.

Thanks, this is down the line in 10 years. Should I need another I will go with PW in a 404 dark continent. For me nothing else comes close in price and quality.

I’m not selling my beautiful browning bar semi auto in 270 win or K gun anytime soon. In fact I do not intend to part with any that I have. They are too good to me and I love them.

Rigby and Heym make you pay through your nose for essentially a same rifle in Mauser 98 or PW arms. I’m not a fan of marketing or hype.

I really like the idea of a 416 Rigby (DG) barrel swap to 338 Norma Magnum (PG). The geometry should work as the 416 is the parent cartridge of the 338 Norma Magnum, and both calibers are very well suited for their assigned roll in the task. I was actually trying to have one of these built, and likely will try again. I just chose the most unlucky gunsmith on the planet. As soon as I sent the deposit he was in and out of the hospital for numerous long stays then one of his shops burned down. Finally I just asked for a refund and start building my own guns.
Anyway, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better match.

I have never owned a 416 BG Rigby but have been fascinated by one. After looking at them in person next to a PW and Mauser 98 that fascination has all but evaporated.
Secondly 10 years down the line I’m pretty sure I will not enjoy the recoil of a 416 as much I do now.

That is not an Echols rifle but a clone as it has the Echols stock and all the bells and whistles. Lon Paul who built the rifle does great work.
