You would be wise to stick with a a 300 grain bullet for nigali. They are notorious for absorbing bullets and not leaving a blood trail. Best to use a heavy bullet like 300 grain Barnes TSX or Swift A-Frames.

I have no experience with that animal. I hear they are tough and some say part of that "toughness" reputation is because some hunters who hunt Deer for the most part go for the crease behind the leg, thinking the vitals are there but the vitals are further forward. Or it could be a combination of the 2.
I saw feedback in the later part of the 375 thread where some hunters had good luck with the LRX on Cape Buffalo. I would think that a 270 grain LRX would penetrate a 600# animal, but maybe not.

I've heard guides (and PH's) recommend that if you can go with a bigger bullet, you should do so. Although I'm sure many have been taken with bullets much smaller than a 270 grain, I'd still opt for the 300. It's your call.

Another point is that you should shoot what's most accurate in your rifle. It's not unusual for one to like certain bullets of the same weight or even specific bullets within a weight. My 375H&H shoots the 300 grain Barnes TSX better than anything else, so that's what I use...for everything with that rifle. It gives me the best opportunity to make an accurate shot on the game I'm pursuing.
