I never knew about this book till a month ago. Since there was some interest shown on AH I decided to buy a copy. There is a ton of information that I'd not seen before. Well worth getting for a serious reloader.

Someone needs to snag this book.
This book has in depth coverage of not only the A-Square rounds, but a number of big bore rounds (both factory and semi-wildcat) and most popular hunting rounds (If they were around prior to 1996)
There is history of the rounds, recounts of experience using them and load data (not extensive but gives you something to start with).
I often just grab mine just to read.

Everyone on this forum needs to own:

a-square reloading manual
Woodleigh reloading manual
Graeme Wright’s shooting the British double

Unfortunately all are out of print. Obtain them any way you can, the data is found nowhere else!

I would add African Dangerous Game Cartridges by Pierre van der Walt, and of course, Taylor's classic African Rifles and Cartridges to that list.

Agreed- Van der Walts book is a must have

I know this community doesn’t need to hear it but my perspective is Alphin being one notorious figure w a history in the arms ammunition industry, alone having furnished the field with something different and serving the ‘special‘ hunter, but he being importantly an American at that, it stands his book will be a Top Book to have in one’s collection if you are an American. I haven’t read consulted mine in probably ten years but it’s relaxing enjoyable reading for its prose alone.

This is one of the best of all books i have read. So much more than data in it . And here is his page and the exellent videos by him and i belive also Johnny Rowland also.

I have a factory produced 500 A-Square. One of my favorite "shooters." And, of course, I have the book. I collect and shoot the big boys for fun and games. Not going back to Africa, having been there twice in the past, including safari with Glenn Cottar. So, at the tender age of 76, I read the literature and shoot paper targets and share with my friends. Actually, I would love to go once more, but cannot stand flying, even if I popped for a first class ticket on Emirates! For what it is worth, I will be taking delivery shortly a VC 600 Nitro Express double and it ain't going to be no "safe queen." Have dies, brass, and bullets, although will be most likely loading reduced 5744 loads.
