DSC The Latest

If you’re in town for TTHA, please make plans to be at my place Saturday night… it should be a nice shindig this year…

I’ll probably post something up late November or early December with specifics..
Sounds like a plan I missed last years and attended the year before, god willing I’ll be there.

My opinion may upset some, but it's never made sense to me to have 3 large Pro Hunting and Conservation Clubs.

Having divided forces doesn't increase our leverage against anti-hunters, it weakens it.

Combining these organizations may be near impossible, but this mess only reinforces the opinion I've had for years.

The new guy also just his properties in La. foreclosed upon.
He seems to be broke and seems to have nudged the other guy out.
The mess is getting messier.
If that’s true it’s honestly a disgusting move made out of self interest and not the good of the organization..

I hope it’s not true..

But based on everything else I’ve seen and heard over the last couple of years, I’m sadly not surprised to hear that and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it is true…

DSC and HSC were formed out of a major falling out with SCI leadership back in the 80's...

Whats sad is.. much of what DSC and HSC complained about and had problem with concerning SCI.. is EXACTLY what DSC is doing now (problems with board leadership and board decisions and the impact on membership and the chapters)..

Had that falling out never happened, DSC and HSC would likely still be the Dallas and Houston chapters of SCI..

I think TTHA was originally supposed to be something different.. a hunting and conservation organization focused on texas specific hunting.. Its now morphing into a bit of an international organization, filling the void that DSC has created..

I think there was a reasonable balance between SCI and DSC for a little while.. SCI seemed much more focused on hunters rights, lobbying, and legislating on behalf of hunters, etc.. while DSC pushed a more conservation focused agenda..

Thats pretty obviously changed in recent years and SCI seems to be the leader on both fronts now while DSC continues to fumble the proverbial football..

Im a life member of DSC.. but.. for the time being, all of my dollars will be invested in SCI and TTHA initiatives..

Just saw on another site where this same topic is being discussed a link to official state records that confirm the first sentence in the above post..

Certainly not a good look for DSC…

Assume the second half of the above isn’t true (although at this point there is no reason to not believe it)… this is still a major problem for DSC IMO..

CEO’s aren’t perfect… they’re human too… BUT… desperate people do desperate things… and the last thing you want in a CEO is someone facing desperate situations or that are otherwise distracted… ESPECIALLY when the organization is in dire straights and already struggling…

What you want is someone with laser focus that can dedicate everything they’ve got to the organization..

If you assume the second part of the post is also true… well… that makes me even further question the sanity of the rest of the board members that participated in this decision..

It’s one thing to be in bad shape and be willing to do something shady for your own self gain… (clearly not a good thing)..

But it’s quite something else for a group of people to be aware of what you’re doing.. and support it…

I go back almost to the very beginning of DSC. Only missed two shows in close to 40 years. DSC(Dallas) was not only a convention but a tradition for my family. I didn't go to Atlanta last year and will never go to another DSC event.
What they did was not only a bad decision but a gut shot to guys like me.
My prediction, TTHA will grow, my African outfitter buddies will attend and it will replace DSC. I will go so far as to predict DSC will die a quicker death than we realize. I feel horrible for all the past presidents and volunteers that made it a success only to see it implode.

I agree...

Much of that is already in motion... the inaugural year of TTHA already had a substantial number of international outfitters present... looking at everyone thats already reserved booths for the 2026 show, the number of international outfitters has already increased by a pretty big margin..

It wont be as big as the old DSC this year (my prediction).. but its going to be a pretty big show, and everything Im seeing and hearing says its going to be successful and will be very well executed.. which means it will only grow that much more the next year..

I just got off the phone with someone that has historically had a very significant relationship with DSC and is very close to much of whats been going on for the last few years.. unfortunately, according to him, the real story about whats going on currently is even worse than whats being talked about here and at least one other place online..

Its an assumption on my part.. but it doesnt look like this is the same situation as when Corey left last year.. Corey left the organization on his own accord.. and for what seems to be very reasonable reasons (I certainly wouldnt have hung around either)... this time around its looking much more like Rob was released from the organization as opposed to leaving on his own accord... Which is unfortunate.. if the circumstances around that release are what they are rumored to be (which is NOT to imply that Rob did anything wrong at all... what Im hearing/understanding is actually quite the opposite).. That just speaks that much more worse for the decision making process and the decision makers currently in control of DSC..

The 2008 DSC convention was my introduction to international hunting. No exaggeration, it was truly a life changing event. I haven't missed a DSC convention since….including the CF in Atlanta. I’m sad, mad and confused, all at the same time. How could a leader in world conservation have imploded so spectacularly? The die is cast. DSC will go the way of the Dodo. TTHA will grow, thanks in large part to DSCs gross incompetence.

Just like many others on this thread, I’m a lifetime DSC member. I have only ever attended their convention, but I already have my hotel booked in Nashville for 2026. I will join SCI as a lifetime member and have no intention of going back to DSC.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect pride may come into play.

There are many adjectives and emotions to describe it but the end result is hunting and conservation suffers needlessly.

I'm not passing any judgement, even though I know the history. Yes, it's "sad as all get out" as my dad used to say. I personally know some of the exhibitors who always go to the SCI conventions, but not DSC. I asked them why this time and they all replied with a verrry fast and abrupt "Nope". No other explanation offered. I'm going because there are a couple exhibitors who attend both. I want to hunt with them next year and I want to get dibs on the primo dates.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
