Recently I have seen some photos on this site of a spectacular antelope that resembles a spring buck on steroids. Or maybe mated with an impala. It has stripes extending down from its eyes, and very extended horns that splay out and often are not symmetrical. The horns are wide, ridged, splayed. From the photos I guess the animal is in the neighbourhood of 250 lbs., or the size of a nice white tail or mule deer. What the heck is it? I have tried to find the site again, no luck. I asked in comments - no reply.

Thanks a lot! It's the Grant's Gazelle. What a beautiful beast! You don't know how much time I spent a) trying to find the site I originally saw the photos of this beautiful antelope, and then searching on the internet. Not sure I will ever be that far north to get one, but maybe...

They all look great to me and I would like to hunt one of each!

I have never seen one but Wikipedia lists adult males ranging from 44 to 77 pounds which is a far cry from a nice sized whitetail.

I think the trickery of camera angles must have made them much larger than they actually are. You see that quite a lot but sometimes the perspective is so off as to make the photo look absurd. I noticed that in another very recent post here where some of the photos were at such a bad perspective it was hard to look at them without shaking your head.

Yeah the size was a guess... though they looked bigger. I checked Wiki as well once I knew what they were. Sure are beautiful animals.

Actually Wiki states that the males are up to 80 kg or 180 lbs. A little closer!

A grants gazelle and a nissa wildebeest has me thinking of going north but dam it cost.

They are hunted in Tanzania

Niassa wildebeest is also hunted in Mozambique @billc

Gotta check this out, but I better wait till after work or it may be even more difficult to afford!

I suppose there may be multiple wiki pages but I just looked again and it says males range from 20 to 35 kilograms which equates to a top end of 77 pounds.

DescriptionEdit

The Grant's gazelle stands 75–95 cm (30–37 in) at the shoulder. The females weigh from 35 to 50 kg (77 to 110 lb) and males from 50 to 80 kg (110 to 180 lb).[

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
