Since he trip is getting closer and always looking to help out thinning the jackal population, anyone ever try one of the digital callers used for notes there?

Not 110% sure but I think fox pro has a spring hare sound available on their units

Plenty of jackal hunters use them.

Have used them for jackal, cheetah, lion, leopard, hyena. They work real well for jackal and lion, hyena if you know how to use them. Its VERY easy to over call especially hyena.
