Another post said about changing the extractor collar on the CZ550’s. I read an in depth article once advising the same. Something to do with the new versions being pressed metal but the original Mauser were cast or formed differently. Something they said was they have an effect on how smoothly the actions cycle.Something Mauser got right.
It points out people shut a lot of effort into polishing rails and slicking actions and this little clip can make a world of difference.

Secondly, do they make a pop up aftermarket peep sight for the CZ550? It seems that it is a desirable feature of the Brno 602. Why not offer an after market version

What other small improvements can we do on a budget?

I can’t afford a full custom but I. Like to tinker with my rifles. I have bedded most as I can do that myself

I polished the bolt and rails on my first Cz550 but I sort of shelved it and haven’t chased a extractor collar.

The pop up peep sight for the Brno 602 was a factory option, not an after market extra. The rear action bridge had a recess milled into it. The pop-up peep sight fitted in the recess. The button on the side operated the pop-up.

There is a gunsmith in the US who does this upgrade for CZ, but of course this is no benefit to anyone outside the US.

NECG produce a peep sight which can be fitted to the rear dovetail. https://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/Gun_Services/Peep_Sights.asp Unfortunately it sits quite high and requires the front sight to be replaced by one much higher than standard.

I have not heard about the extractor collar but that is worth looking into !! I have 2 Brno Zkk602 One in .375 H&H and one that has been converted to .458 Lott /.450Watts. I have modified my rifles, and this is what I did

.375 I changed to wood stock to a synthetic ArmTec stock with a aluminium frame built into the stock.
Shortened the barrel
Put NECG peep sights I filed down all the sharp edges on the prep sight took all the paint or bluing off and colour case hardened the sight and put a Red fibre optic front sight.
Removed the express sights and put in blanking plate.

.458 Lott .
Barrel shortened
NECG peep sight same as .375
NECG red fibre optic front sight
Limbsaver recoil pad

Nice, I’ve seen the NECG peep sight online. Do you need to use a higher front sight with these?

Assuming the front sight height affects the sighted distance what distance is it zeroed at?

I realise these are for close quarters etc but my thoughts are that although you need to take the scope off it makes a cheap option for a back up as opposed to having a second scope. I’ve read a lot of hunters who travel take a second scope and rings abroad for DG rifles in case one fails. This for less than the cost of a set of rings or even weighing less makes sense as a back Upton. If it’s adjusted correctly before you travel it’s unlikely to,fail.

The NECG peep sights are great and for the .375 I had to get a higher front sight 9.5mm the .458 I got the smallest one they make can’t remember off the top of my head. Both rifles are zeroed at 85m so I can shoots 6 “ steel plate free hand at 85m. I do not use scopes and never have in my opinion it is another thing that can go wrong and if I am to shoot anything it will be with in 50 yards or so. Once these sights are set up they are set up you lock them in place and that is where they stay. If you do decide to go this route a good gunsmith can do this set up for you in a day or so. My rifles are working rifles so for me this set up is perfect but I know everyone is different and each to their own. It is worth having a look at and I know of others discussions on here about scope mounts for the zkk602 and some troubles getting them but not to sure I’m am confident some other AH members will be able to direct you on the scopes

Which gunsmith are you referring to for the peep sight?

Harlan Satrang of Triple River Gunsmithing used to do this but I believe he has since retired.

I have a small-frame Zastava that originally was chambered in 222Rem; the little pop-up sight is missing, love to replace it; I had it rebarrelled in 300/221 (identical dimensions to the Blackout). I may go on the market; surplus ... The idea of such a sight on a L/G or D/G rifle surely appeals ...

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
