OK Chaps!! Im strongly considering a CZ550 in 458 Lott. The rifle is in a kevlar stock but the dealer also has a few wood stocked 550s. I guess the in-letting etc should be the same so swapping stocks shouldn't be too much hassle. Pls cast a vote and if wont mind pros and cons

Thanks as always

I would go with the wood stock, provided it’s the “American” one. Unless you have plans to Cerakote the metal bits. I just don’t see the point in having a weather resistant stock if the metal isn’t.

I have wood stocked CZs for my Africa / fair weather hunts and a CZ 550 gunkoted and synthetic stock for bad weather. I would think the 458 Lott would generally be a fair weather gun. I would pick one up with a wood stock and rework the finish. Some have pretty good wood underneath.

Well its seems to be leaning towards wood. Lets see what the forth coming auction brings then if needed I can go the 458 lott route

Wood for sure; but some might say I'm a little biased. Haven't ever seen a good looking synthetic stock :E Shrug:, and life's too short to hunt with an ugly gun!

I agree with Krish.

Like others have said, take both. Hopefully you can pick the wood stock.

I dont think I would be able to have both as the dealer will then have a rifle with no stock as I intend on a swap of stock. I suppose I can get on my pals copying lathe and make a wooden stock from the kevlar one

Then take the wood stock. You can buy kevlar or synthetic after msrket. Wood stick is hard to come by.
