I spent my lifetime as a professional shooter and shooting sports rep (Winchester, Remington, Leupold, Nosler, S&W, Glock, Sigarms, etc.) and this is my perfect set of rifles. Three matched guns to hunt everything on the planet. They have killed everything from elephants, cape buffalo, lion, Kodiak brown bear to sheep, coyotes and squirrels. In my opinion nothing compares to the early 50's production Winchester M70's. In that time period the craftsmen in New Haven were a close-knit fraternity that had ultimate pride in what they built.
Nelson Forsythe was a quiet, almost shy, craftsman gunsmith who George Thacker of the Pittsburgh Gunsmith School called his most talented student ever. He started to work at Flaigs who imported the finest gunstock wood in the world, and later built guns for actors, Arab princes and the Shah of Iran without promotion or fanfare. He built 6 for me and these are my favorites. Perhaps there is a better set of guns in the world but I haven't seen them. I am 6'2" and these have a LOP of 14.5 inches. Gunmakers have traditionally made guns to fit the "average" man who was 5'8". A stock TOO SHORT requires the shooter to crawl down the stock to get the proper eye relief. This contributes to what we called the "Redfield eyebrow" and that ain't purdy! If you are close to 6' or taller these should fit you well.
1950 production M70 375HH stocked in AAA Circassian walnut. Fitted with a Leupold M8-3X scope. The perfect combo for a quick-pointing DG rifle.
1952 production M70 270 Win. stocked in AAA Circassian walnut with tapered Douglas barrel. M8-6X Leupold. Excellent long range, med game rifle.
Model 52 22LR stocked in the best piece of Circassian walnut imported by Flaigs! Leupold M8-4X. Simply magnificent. Shoots one hole at 50yds with Eley 10X.
They are all fitted in an Americase 4-gun case. It would be a shame to break these up so I want to sell them as a set, so I am pricing them way below value. $9000 for the set. If you want the best trophy in your room, here it is.
