Custom 505 Build

@turbogrouse : What was the intent of this build? A big bore sniper rifle of sorts? For what application?

Little update, cold snap finally ended so got out to the range today to group some 525 and test some 600’s. Also decided on a scope and mounted a Nightforce 1-8 NX8 on it.

525’s are a bit slower than anticipated but ok at 2400, grouped right at 1.25” at 100m. Then did 5 velocity tests on some North Fork 600 FPS, started at 2345 and last was 2470. Ladder was in 2gr increments. Rifle ate them up like nothing, going to try and get them to about 2600

Interesting rifle build. I concur with @rookhawk on all the work need to get a boyds to hold together at 505 level recoil.
I have contemplated building a 500 Jeff off a Savage 338 laupa (Either the single shot or the mag fed )
For no reason besides: Will this work:A Bulb:

I hope thousands of others will use this as an example and build their own 505. I’d like to see components become more available when I get to my own!

I can also appreciate the build as a “just because I wanted to” endeavor. It may not be how I would build mine, but I’m glad you built yours the way you wanted and that it’s working out at the range. Thanks for sharing.

I have been toying with the idea of using a Cadex CDX40 action for a 505. Im so happy to see someone has actually done it!! Awesome set up! I can’t wait to see it in a walnut stock!

I was also thinking about just getting a CDx 30 in 338 Lapua Mag and putting a 22-24” 416 Rigby or a 375-338 Lapua barrel on it. My concern is the 20 moa rail for a 100 yard zero with an LPVO like your Nightforce. I know the Cadex isn’t a classic African Hunting rifle, but I miss my old Cadex.

Now You really have me thinking!

One of a kind for sure, you build it to your taste, so what's not to like about it.

I think your rifle looks incredibly cool. I love the green stock, and both the barrel and Bolt fluting. Your choice of scope is outstanding also. That's a heavy Rascal but what is not to love.

I love my 505 and have shot a fair bit of game with it.

But I just can't quite get up the courage to have it finished like my Remington VersaMax coyote shotgun......

Enjoy your rifle, it's a beauty!

I would like a CDX30 as well, 378 or 416 Weatherby for me. 20moa might not be bad. I've got a 20moa on my 700 with an Nx8 and the 100yrd zero still gives me quite a bit of down elevation. Still trying to find the right walnut blank for it.

I went with a zero rail to drop the sight down and I originally planned on using a red dot.

Thanks!! She is a tad heavy but really only a few pounds more than my others, carried it all last season looking for a moose like that nice bull you got, no luck though.

Nice 505 as well! that's a nice pattern on the Versa!

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
