Yesterday I cleaned 3 centre fires and saw variing degrees of dirtyness and copper fouling.

Nothing of concern but an observation.

.308 Has an IBI fitted aftermarket . Broken in with cleaning steps . Shooting 124gn Hammer Hunter projectiles (copper)

.280a.i. Has an IBI C/F wrapped broken in and using a Woodleigh projectile.

.300wm second hand, unknown round count . Using an Atomic 29 projectile

I've been working up a load in the .300wm. it seemed to have more fouling than the others.

Would you attribute this to the factory barrel, the powder or the projectile?

That's using Atomic 29 but it's had 124gn Hammer through it too.

Coincidentally both IBI barrels are accurate and we're easier to clean.

The Factory Tikka .300wm is 1moa capable but the rebarrelled Tikkas are showing better accuracy.

Are copper projectiles pure copper or do different brands have special secret proprietary material compounds or copper alloys?

I would attribute it to both barrel conditioning (factory vs custom) and yes bullet manufacturing. Different bullets have different copper blends and different design bullets have different engraving pressure. Like most things rifle related it’s never just one thing.

I have a fair bit of experience with hammer bullets and have found them to be a bit softer than other copper bullets and tend to foul less but that’s just my experience.
