Just wondering if there is any danger in cooling a over heated Suppressor with water? Have any of you done this before? Does this void any warranty that you may have? Thanks for your response.

Hummm, I wouldn't advise it, and if it got that hot, I'd just let it cool off on its own. I knew of someone who had one of those portable mattress inflators that he would use to cool off barrels quicker.

BTW, I carry a kitchen oven mitt to remove the suppressor. :D

I wouldn’t do it. You may create stressed sue to differential cooling and crack the metal.

I think Surefire is the only one that can take it, even then would not do it unless it was a battle field situation.

I use a Barrel Cool device to cool down one rifle's barrel while I am shooting another.
It is not fast to cool, but certainly faster than without it!

DO NOT attempt to rapid cool a suppressor. There is a very stong possibility you will screw up its structural integrity..

If you're trying to get rid of the mirage from a hot suppressor, they make suppressor covers that will keep that down and allow you to handle the suppressor pretty easily.. but they are NOT made for rapid fire type scenarios.. they are more for what you'd see when doing repetitive firing from a bolt action, etc..

If you're trying to remove the suppressor before packing it away.. leaving the chamber open as @Mark A Ouellette recommends will help.. and something like a silicon oven mitt as @PARA45 suggests is a viable option..

Here is a Barrel Cool device in action while I take a break from this .375 H&H.

Good grief, either fat fingers or autocorrect got me. I was trying to say that water cooling will create internal stresses due to differential contraction of the metal. This could very possibly cause structural damage. Do not do it!

This is what my friend used, he attached some surgical tube and pumped air through the barrel.

This….aka thermal shock. Think of a hot cookie pan being dunked in cold water, the principle is the same.

I agree that it is a bad idea. It would be difficult to get water evenly on the suppressor and not result in the metal wanting to warp.

But, I would watch a you tube video of someone doing it and bite my fingernails in anticipation of a calamity.

You can find our military guys doing it with surefire cans. I'll give surefire one thing. They may not be the quietest or the lightest, they are one of the most robust.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
