Have any of you taken a Sable in Caprivi? What area? I know Sable are there free ranging, which areas have good numbers and also have good hippo/crock numbers?

I just can’t find a lot of info in posts and members pictures of much coming out of Namibia. I’ve got an idea for a ‘28 hunt I’m looking to put together with my youngest boy.

Thanks in advance.

We nearly hit a juvenile roan driving from Katima to Rundu, be we didn’t see any sable.

Jamy Traut https://www.jamyhunts.com/ could set you up with a hunt in the Caprivi that includes all three plus a buff if so inclined.

I saw several nice sable hunting out of Omejeve’s Ivory Camp in 2022. Lots and lots of hippo on the Kwando river there as well.

Didn’t see many crocs there though. I’m sure they are there, we just didn’t see many. Habitat was getting destroyed at a pretty good clip by elephants so not sure what the PG situation is like now in the area.

If it were me I’d want to hunt the bwabwata park concessions. Kou Kuas (sponsor) holds west. Omujeve holds east. I’d confirm how long the current leases last on any Caprivi concession when you start researching.
If you want to hunt Caprivi you should really add red lechwe as well. Keep in mind trophy hippo, croc, sable on Caprivi are good quality, but pretty expensive compared Zambia or Zimbabwe. There is a non-exportable hippo and croc option that’s really a great value.

Bwabwata West - with KouKuas Adventures would be my first choice

... was hunting there in 2023 - look at my report (thread - Jan 14, 2024)

Outfitters with large, remote concessions that have a mix of mopane woodland and access to riverine areas are where you'll want to look. The key is finding an outfitter who doesn't just offer sable, but has a recent history of taking them. Ask for references from past sable clients.
No shit..? Wow, that’s some really great generalized advice. Sounds exactly like something generated from an AI assisted search.

I asked for help from members with experience in narrowing down to specific areas, not general environmental conditions and how to interview an outfitter.

What area of the Caprivi did you hunt for sable and hippo and what outfit and PH did you settle on hiring for your hunt? Precisely.

I hunted in the Wuparo Conservancy twice. The first time with Wayne Cilliers and the second time with Dawid Muller.
I saw several sables, including this nice bull, but Dawid didn't have them on quota very often. I think one every 3 years ?

I saw more roans in this conservancy and I think at that time, he had 2 of them on the quota.
I have never seen any crocodile over there, except a very small one while I was fishing in front of the camp but too small for being a trophy or even a non-trophy.
It's a better place for buffalo and hippo.

Thank you. Good Lord, they’re beautiful.

There are very limited quotas on most everything in the Caprivi. Just keep that in mind.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
