Buffalo arrows

Good discussion here. I’ve also followed some debate on what is ideal FOC. Some argue there’s such a thing as excessive FOC. What’s your take on that?

My experience has been that you can and should use as much FOC as possible up to the point that it effects the tune of the arrow... I have personally never shot an arrow with a TAW in excess of 1000 grains, and with the FOC being around the 33% mark... I haven't gone with a higher FOC or heavier TAW because I have not yet had the need...

That all being said, there are a couple of broadhead manufacturers with Bishop being the main one, who is making a solid steel, 2-blade, single-bevel broadhead as heavy as 600 grains. I would very interested to see how that heavy of a broadhead would fly... In theory, the more FOC, the better the flight...

I can't answer what is ideal but I can tell you the set up I chose worked. I shot a black eagle rampage with weighted inserts and a 250 grain iron will buff. Total arrow weight of 850 grains and 20% front of center. 75lb mathews lift. I had a pass through in the shoulder and watched him fall inside 50 yards

Anything taken to an extreme can push it too far. Getting above 30% FOC is pretty tough as you still need enough strength in the shaft to handle the launching of the arrow and maintain spine - something that has to increase as FOC goes up as well.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
