Hi everyone I went to go to a friend today and they are looking to sell me this B.S.A S.R.G .303. I had a look and it was previously bought on auction from the Government it is in need of a good clean up and some TLC I checked the barrel and it needs a copper brush through it I tried to loosen the gunk up in there with brake and carb cleaner and penetrating lubricant and used a pull through but still needs a proper clean but left it with oil in the barrel so once I get it licensed I can sort it out but wanted to know if any of you experts could give me any info on this weapon? With reference to the numbers and stamps etc ?

Appears to be a No. 1 Mk III*. Next time try to avoid such harsh light as that strong shadow can hide detail. Do not have my big book in front of me so that is the limit of what I can say right now.

What does the S.R.G. stand for?

C+P
BSA colonial contract to the Southern Rhodesia Government (later Rhodesia, currently Zimbabwe...)

Any SMLE Mk III* in reasonable condition is fun to own and shoot...I love mine.
These rifles (and the Mk IV) were the backbone of the british army from 1907 - 1951...history..mad minute, etc..

I would argue that a rifle from the rhodesian contract is a real gem for an african enthusiast..

OK, thanks for the SRG info, now what is the C+P?
