Brown bear hunting is open in Romania after 8 years!

Having done a fair bit of bear hunting, I lean to bigger bullets at modest velocity. I would think that a 9.3x62 would be perfect for a bear/stag hunt with 8x68 a sensible minimum. Personal experience causes me to lean away from the 30’s, but they will certainly do the job.
Yes, you are right. I used 9,3x62 and also 375 H&H. I never lost any bear with 9,3x62. Now I’m using Norna Vulkan 15g for red stag, brown bear and wild boars. I never had any issues. Gun is not kicking, jumping, and the groups at 100m are under 1 MOA.

I used 8x68S is not bad, I would recommend bullets over 220 grains if possible.

Thank you Marius - I think Woodleigh makes a good 250
I have a good 9,3 x 64 too, wich probably is a better bet.
I'm thinking very much about that hunt.
I'd like to involve our friend (and already your client) WAB
I have to write him about that!

With a 250 grains bullet the hunter can be confident, PH as well. Sometime is difficult to see body shock or any sign to indicate the shoot. With a heavy bullet usually you can judge where the bear is hit and chances to be found.

Depending on prices I may be interested in a 2025 bear hunt.

Just curious if a larger Bear can be shot even if the hunter doesn't have any desire to export it? I'd be happy with pictures and memories, and let someone else enjoy the trophy if they like.

Any chance they open up bow hunting in Romania? I don't like being left out of this party...

Yes, and it shots well in my rifle. I think it's a great, tough bullet, suited for deep penetration, it opens "delayed"
I used TOG in 375 H&H and I was happy with that.

To my knowledge, bowhunting is not a legal method of taking game in Romania. Don't think that has changed.
Use enough gun!

Unfortunately the bow hunting is allowed only in fence areas. I will let you know if any changes are made.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
