My stepdaughter wanted to go to Dick's to buy athletic attire. I told her regardless of price or time required, we'd go elsewhere to buy what she needed. No doubt tens of thousands of other sportsmen will do the same when someone say's "Can we go to Dick's..."
I'd wager that 90% of the sportsmen out there could care less that Dicks no longer sells firearms. It is a lot like the hunter that only has one rifle and doesn't think that there is a need for a rifle such as a AR15 or any of the others. I have a brother in law like that. He figures that as long as he has his "hunting" rifle that all the others don't matter and that there is no need for semi automatic ones. There are a lot more sheep out there than most of us think.
You may well be absolutely correct in your assumption. But I am willing to bet that the 10% who do care buy waaay more than 10% of the sporting-goods. Think 80/20 rule.
My wife and I used to buy some of our non-shooting sporting goods there, but that has come to an end.
Just watching some TV this AM and noticed that Dick’s is doing some heavy advertising with their president Lauren Hobart narrating the ad. Normally, the only time I see Dick’s ads is during the holidays. Gee, I wonder if they are having some financial issues?
I sure hope so.......and I hope that I was part of the problem by boycotting them because of their stupid arse politics!
I go to Dick's from time to time, not to buy but to drop load of shit when I need to go. I figure I can give back what they give us.
Yeah.... I still contend that the entire thing was a red herring/Trojan horse. If one were to examine closely how much revenue not only came from firearms, but more over AR’s. I would say/bet far less than 1%. They knew this.... so make a statement to their customers & potential would be customers. Bottom line, the real deal, never shopped there for that/those products.... nor ever will/would. So, end game.... no net loss or gain. Hoping that any attention/publicity is good publicity.
Unless of course that is what they were selling! Lol. My ex-wife would have rushed the damn door! Plus every guy in town would be applying for a position. I really loved the store here in Houston that put up a banner that said “we sell AR’s because we aren’t dicks”. I went and bought a gun just for the hell of it. Lol.
Was looking to buy a tent yesterday.. and was googling to see who had what before we left the house to go actually look at a few.. Dicks came up in the search with a very good price on a nice option... Wife and I agreed... “nope”... and we went and bought elsewhere...
The Dicks here in town... 2 miles away... a real generalist store. Lot of crap, but not a whole lot of one item... especially guns & ammo. That being said.... in all my travels there. I never, ever saw more that one cheesy ass entry level basic broke Dick retail priced AR in stock. Of which only certain demographics are a buyer for. My previous point is made....
