BOTSWANA: Leopard Hunt Report

The adventure begins. Here I sit in the Polaris lounge in Newark waiting for my 9pm flight to JoBerg. Bought a half dozen ball caps for the staff. Wanted to share with you guys the back pack I like to travel with. I own two. One is my bug out bag and the other is for trips like this. Lots of pockets and space. Even a pocket in the entire back to slip in a plate or a great place for an EDC pistol. I really like this color. Doesn’t look tactical.

So this is United Polaris. My first time in their bed/seat combo. Always flown Delta One before. I’ll give my honest assessment at the flights conclusion. Not a full airplane either. Interesting.

Wishes for the very best of African luck.
As a "seasoned" guy who followed trailing hounds for 20+ years, I will following your adventure with great enthusiasm.
Kind Regards
Spike

In the hotel room in Johannesburg . In a couple of hours we will catch a flight to Gaborone Botswana. Polaris vs Delta One? No contest. Delta One wins. It’s clear that United’s CEO never tried the Polaris bed system. For your lower body it’s more like a trash compactor. It’s shaped like a triangle meaning as the bed extends your feet are forced into the tip of the triangle. Impossible to have both feet next to each other, one has to sit on top of the other. The rest of the body drops into a coffin like box where your shoulders are touching the sides. And there is no padding, just hard edges. If you are a short person and only have one leg it’s perfect.

Polaris is very similar to the BA biz class that’s being fazed out. It almost isn’t with the upgrade.

Quick update. Day one of the hunt. We have about a million acres to hunt. Five trucks are out scouting for leopard tracks. A few were found this morning but nothing big enough. In for lunch now.

Best of luck! Following with great anticipation!

Decent track found today, but a long way from here. Will leave for it a 3am.

Have a safe and successful hunt. Looking forward to reading more.

Leopard on the ground. One shot, one meter. Sorry you’ll have to wait for the full story and pictures. We are packing to head to Gabarone tonight. Then tomorrow we are heading to see some of the rhinos we bought.

What a cliffhanger! Wmh! Can't wait to hear the full story.

Best of luck, I wish you great success. I go to Mozambique in June to hopefully completer my Big 5 with a leopard as well.

Congrats on the leopard! One meter, dogs, absolutely can’t wait for the story.

About to leave for the airport. But here is a pick. The effort on this hunt was nothing short of monumental as you’ll see when I get a chance to write the full report. Short of the trigger pulling part is he charged us, jumped on the hood of the truck, then the windscreen and in a second or two he would have been mauling us. I shot him in the forehead with the 1910 WJ Jeffery 475 No 2 Jeffery. Bullet exited his chest, re-entered his stomach and ended up in his ball sack.
Who are you hunting with?

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
