Made this video today in my backyard. Anyone know what type of bird? It didn't seem to concerned about me getting to within 10 yards of it.

It appears to be a juvenile red tailed hawk, the only other option could be a juvenile swainsons hawk but it would be way out of its habitat, they are an open country bird. But the buteo family of hawks can be difficult.

Yes, I think it’s a young Red Tailed Hawk. I’m still thrilled whenever I see a raptor. We almost lost them as a group in the 60s. It was a rare sighting until 20 years ago. They have sure rebounded. Here’s a picture of a young RTH for reference.

Either a young Red-Tailed Hawk or a Red-Shouldered Hawk, IMO.

Red shoulder is a definite possibility. The Habitat is what they like. I’ve seen them hunting squirrels in my parents backyard much to my dads delight, he had an on going war with squirrels at his bird feeders.

Next to waterfowl raptors are my favorite as well, my sod farm is a Mecca for them and shore birds. Lots of red tails, harriers, falcons bald eagles and during fall migration an influx of Swainsons hawks with numerous other raptors including some rare ones for Alabama, white tailed kite, burrowing owl and crested caracara.

Red-Tailed Hawk (Juvenile plumage)
buteo jamaicensis

By its size, likely a female.

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
