Big Bore Addiction Group

sadly I wont have a double rifle to shoot... hopefully my little 416 will be accepted. :(

I need to get Mr. Searcy to hurry up and fix my double so I can sell it and put some more money together for a nice Heym. after speaking with them at the SCI show ive pretty much decided one of their rifles is in my future! chambering is still undecided but will probably be in either 450 NE or 470 NE... the 500 NE calls to me as well.

Not to worry, if you journey all the way to Alaska, during a time when an organized D.R. shoot is going on, we will see to it you can fire some doubles here.

Since we are talking bore rifles.....I aquired a single Joseph Lang & Son 10 bore, fully rifled bore, centerfire hammer, heavy octagonal barrel. It is made year 1870. I PRESUME it is for the 700 grain rund ball and 5 dram load, but not sure. Where can I get 10 bore brass shells..?

pictures or its a lie! ;)

as far as getting 10 bore brass, you will likely have to get it made. first thing you will need is a chamber cast.

I will take some pics and post them..:E Roll Eyes:

just a thought, but if its a cartridge rifle then its likely meant to fire either a conical or a minie ball. I don't believe to many cartridge guns were made to fire round balls. (I could easily be wrong)

figure out what the twist rate is and that will tell you if its meant for a round ball for a conical.

Two more pics of the Lang..

The .280 Flanged NE was made by Lancaster, ie a fully rimmed .280 Ross..

I have dies for it and just got brass from Bertram....wil try to load for it..

The barrels are proofed for 45 1/2 grains of cordite and 140 grain bullets.

I have an ancient Kynoch box that came with the rifle with a few 140 gr. copper-point rounds...loaded with N/C powder according to the box..

When I finally got myself an english double it had to be in to really oddball calibres...:A Yes:

I have a 1914 catalouge (reprint) from Charles Lancaster, they tried really hard to market the .280 round there......but it never really caught on it seems..

I think my rifle is from that early period.

Tried to e-mail him but he is not very responsive...not interested in making some ammo either..

I bought some new .475 ammo from him though and it regulates in my rifle..

Would you please post some pics of your .470 Lang..?

XIX century ! What era ! They didn't be afraid ... 10 bore ... for Lions, Elephant, Buffalo ... Keep my .416 ...

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
