Just wondering what you guys carry as a multitool brand wise and best range of tools plus longevity.
Had a few leathermans years ago. But not needed one for awhile. Just thinking for my trip.
Cheers

I use a SOG Power Plier multi tool.
I will also take a couple of cheap Ozark Trail MT’s as gifts for trackers or drivers in addition to their tip.

The Multitool came in handy fixing the Toyota HiLux we where hunting in.

Leatherman is hard to beat. They offer a plethora of models to choose from to suit your needs. I have been using them for 35 years. Haven’t broken a single tool on one.

I have two of the Leatherman Wave+ but I think they have gone by a few other names to get these specific items. I did remove all the serrations from the knife blade because I’m lazy and want to make it easier to sharpen.

The best balance of functionality and carry-ability is, in my opinion, the original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool. I think the current model that’s closest to the original PST would be the Bond model. My original PST stays around the house, on light duty, as I consider it somewhat collectible nowadays.
I have an original Wave that has been down the trail. I broke one of the screwdrivers (my fault) and the pliers were cockeyed from extreme use. It was past the 25 year warranty but Leatherman still fixed it for free anyway. They even installed a new blade as the old one had been resharpened so many times a great deal of steel was missing. The only problem with that was the new blade wasn’t sharpened correctly, but I easily took care of that myself. No complaints!
The Super Tool 300 is the most capable, this thing is an absolute unit. I like to keep it in a pack, as I feel it’s too heavy for the belt or pocket.

The original Leatherman.

While I was in the Army I always had one with me. They even made a special non magnetic model with blasting cap crimpers.

Use Gerber 14 in 1,

Use this Gerber. Fortunately it was a gift.

I remember when the “slide out” design hit the market in the 1990’s and everyone had to have them. I stayed with the Leatherman, but did see how useful the Gerber tool could be. Specifically how quickly it could be deployed with a flick of a wrist. Very convenient in certain situations but I think they had durability issues with the early models. I’m sure they’ve made upgrades since then.

Somewhat OT but I bought a dozen or so of these TSA confiscated ones for safari gifts. They went over well.

I own two leatherman’s (one was a tip) and one gerber. I don’t use any of them afield. My opinion of multitools is that; they do a lot of things, but don’t do one thing well.

Like @RedTag, I have a house-bound OG Leatherman PST in my tool bucket for quick/light work. It's so loose now it's like a Balisong. What I have carried for the last 15 years is a Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit; I like it better than any of the Leatherman/Gerber tools.

I have several Leatherman models in various places—glove box, various packs, etc. but a few years ago got a SOG that stays in my bird hunting vest. It has enough power to cut through a standard snare if need be. I really like it in general and if I buy any new ones will go that route.

Leatherman Sidekick is what I use daily. I had worn the last one out and ordered a new one just now. I am used to this one and DO NOT like other models. I may as well be naked without my Leatherman!

I’ve got a little bit of an obsession with multitools and probably own a dozen or more… most are gerbers, but there are a couple of leathermans and a couple of SOGs in the pile.. I’m not super picky about brand or even which functions a tool has as long as there’s a knife blade, pliers, and a flat and Philips screwdriver… everything else is just a bonus…

For me it's the early Leatherman Wave from back in the late 90's early 2000's. It had everything I needed.. I had one a few years, lost it, got a newer model that had extra bits I had to some how carry around too. I lost the bits and gave up on that one. I have found a couple Waves at pawn shops and held on to one for a while now. A Wave has gone with me on most if not all of my hunting trips.

I’m still carrying a Gerber slide out and a Gerber dime
The larger Gerber definitely has an Achilles heel, the tungsten insert to cut wire.
Break the insert and it will make the wire cutoff useless!
I also have 2-3 leathemen that stay in backpack, truck boat , never had a problem with them except they are hard to keep razor sharp on the knife blades.

Leatherman Wave is solid tried and true. I carried one on my belt for years.

The Leatherman Rebar is also really good although larger and heavier than the Wave. It is the multi tool that I keep in my pickup.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
