Best Factory Ammo for 7x57 Mauser?

I think this thread has triggered some kind of 7x57 buying frenzy. Almost all the 7x57 on Midway has gone out of stock since this morning haha.
Palmetto State Armory is showing they have the Norma 150 grain Whitetail for under $30 a box as of a few minutes ago.

I have a REM 700 7x57 rechambered to AI and it shoots 160g woodleigh protected point into amazing groups at 2900fps chronograph by lab radar

Right now Midway has Norma Whitetail ammo at $27.74 a box. Great ammo for a good price, and somebody somewhere is going to want that brass. ;)

PPU brass and loaded ammo is plentiful in my neck of the woods, but if what others have said is true, that may dry up.

If you can find it, the Hornandy 7mm 139gr GMX load might be a good one to try to see if your rifle likes it.
Store here sell it for 67 dollar per box if one buy a case of 200 cartridges minimum . Lowest I seen for that here in Norway .

Midway USA does have some factory Hornady 275 Rigby 140g in stock now:

The 140 grain bullet doesn’t do much for me in my Highland Stalker. I bought a bunch of that a while back and just pull the bullet and use the brass. Seems illogical to do 140s when i would say most users want a heavier bullet in the US.

I bought a case of the Hornady 275 Rigby stamped ammo when I ordered Mama's London Best. It was about 10 years ago and the ammo was around $20 a box then. It is the worst shooting 7x57 ammo I have ever tried in the 3, 7x57/275 Rigby rifles we owned at the time. I also just pull the bullets for the brass. 2-21/2", 3 shot group was the norm in the Rigby, a NULA and an Encore. All 3 rifles are very accurate with the right ammo.

Safe shooting

The 140gr Accubond loaded by superior as a test load shoots amazing in my PreWar Rigby. The Factory Rigby 140gr SP shoots sub MOA, as well as the Hornady 275 Rigby load. Neither Hendershots or Superior had 275 Rigby Stamped Brass so they loaded 7x57 for me to test and once I’m done shooting the Hornady Ammo, I’ll have them reload my own brass.

MidwayUSA is selling the Norma Whitetail ammo for $27. I’ve used those and hunted pretty much every plains game species in Africa and the brass is great for reloading. I have not reloaded since I get good grouping and it’s pretty cheap with the free shipping they be provide.

Got my rifle yesterday and took her for a spin this afternoon. I got some 150 grain Norma whitetail and some 139 grain PPU to try. Both shot very well. I’m going to try the Norma ammo and see how they do on a deer here at home. I’ll report back.

Middle target is the Norma and the top right was the PPU. Bottom targets were one of my 270s and a 25-06. These are 100 yard groups of a bench.

I think that rifle is ready for some great hunts. Good luck my friend.

I actually had good luck with Hornady 139gr SST and same weight Interbond and GMX shooting to the same point of impact. 1 MOA out of one rifle and better than that out of another. Also going at around 2800 fps out of 24” barrel.

I find bonded bullets a bit much for whitetail in most calibers. Small holes, they run farther than I want even with heart shots. Lungs even farther. The sst explodes even at 300+ meters. But the wound channel never seems to be straight. I have the Norma 156gr bonded ammo amd some RWS to try but I will save these for bigger/tougher animals.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
