I would appreciate recommendations for compact binos in the $1000.00 range. When I am not hunting and don’t need my range finding Zeiss Victory’s I would like a small pair of binos for general use. Thanks for your thoughts !

I’ve been happy with my maven 8x30 at about half that budget. Japan glass and really lightweight.

Used Swarvoski or Zeiss IMHO

I have had a few brands over the past 35 years but now I use Swaro range finding 10x40s for hunting here in the UK but 8x30 Swaro for Africa, used they were under $1,000 (here in the UK)

I have used the high end of the range of Vortex and they seemed pretty good

As far as very compact I Love my Swarovski 10x20 pocket. I have an older pair of pocket Zeiss, ho hum.

My PH in Zim had a pair of Maven's a client gave him, we never see the brand here in Europe but I thought the glass was good in them

I really like my Maven 10x30s. I’ve had around 5 years. The glass is very good and feel very solidly built. The B series are their higher end line and made in US with Japanese parts.

Also have some Maven 8 x 30s. Good glass for the cash for sure.

I have an older Japanese-made set of Vortex Viper 10x42s and although a tad heavy, they have held up very well and are clear and crisp.

Used Leica Trinovid 8x32, there are at least 3 pair at first glance on ebay that are sub $800, even if you have to send them in for clean and re-furb, you are still well ahead when compared to off brands. the big three are where it's at for binos, I've learned my lesson and will never trust anything else.

I have some of the older generation Zeiss and Leica binos and they are lightweight and clear. You can get them for $500-$800. If buying used, look for the best examples (folks who buy high end optics typically take good care of them) but look for scratched lenses or any fungus on the inside of the lens.

Thank you everybody. For what I need the Maven b series would be a good possibility.

If you are near sighted an 8x42. If you aren't going to use them with glasses and you can manage them a 10x42.

Pretty big fan of old Vortex Talons in 8x42. These have a bridge like the Swarovski EL.

My current and most used 8x42's are Swarovski EL TA 8x42 Range. Not a fan of the LRF for anything over 400 meters. I still cary a spare Leupold 1600 BRX in my front pocket.

I have a set of Leica ultravid 8x20's that I would sell for $475 shipped if that interests you.

I bought a set of Zeiss Conquest 8x33 last year and really like them. They are compact and not heavy

I use these:

I would recommend Zeiss Terra 10x42's. Great pair of compact binos and about $500

Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42 $699 on the big river from Euro Optic

They are relatively light and compact in size compared to Swaros of the same size. I’ve owned four pair of Swaros, sold all of them and use the Conquest HD’s now for bird surveys and hunting. Great value.

STEINER PREDATORS ARE A GOOD AFFORDABLE BINO. ALWAYS ARGUEING WITH MY SON TO JUST GIVE ME THE STEINERS AND HE CAN TAKE THE SWARVO'S.

Meopta 8x32, we have 3 pairs that were made for Cabela's Instinct Euro line. I compared them to Zeiss and Swarovski and felt they were sharper and brighter that the Zeiss and as good as the Swarovski (at that price point) I don't think they are available from Cabela's now, but Euro optics might be able to help.

I’m surprised to see Leica still gets so many recommendations. Their glass may be great but I know of too many examples of them getting sent back and Leica charging for the work that should be under warranty or not needed at all with other brands. Leica also happens to be the only scope I’ve had fail. It wouldn’t hold vertical zero.

I read an older thread that mentioned you having some 9.3x64 brass. Do you still have some? I am looking for 100 pcs, maybe 200.
