Just some info on a assault.
Anti-hunting hate crime

The chairman of a major Belgian hunting association - Rudi Van Decraen - was recently attacked and seriously injured by anti-hunting activists in his hunting area. The masked activists were in the area to destroy hunting installations like high seats and trail cameras. They attacked the hunter when he arrived in the area after being notified by trail cameras that the activists were present.

After the attack by the anonymous thugs he was hospitalised with severe wounds and several bone fractures. The criminals who did this are still at large.

This was a hate crime. Hunting is a completely legal and legitimate passion that is encouraged by authorities and society at large. The fact that an aggressive minority hates the idea of hunting is in no way any excuse for violence against hunters.

I wish Rudi van Decraen a speedy recovery and swift justice for his attackers. In an ideal world I would expect a strong reaction against the attackers from the anti-hunting community. In the real world that we all live in I sadly have no such expectations. The anti-hunting movement is in reality an anti-hunter movement that is entirely hate based.

I know what would consume my every waking hour when I was released from the hospital!

Very sad. I gave up my very public hunting area because it was too close to the town. Someone damaged my hunting seats. I just never went back in there.

In Europe this is getting to be a problem.

I friend only hunts driven hunts and in Eastern Europe.

I don't think Germany is as radical as Belgium, but what a challenge this has become.

I wish this man a speedy recovery.
I hope that he is not seriously injured and that these are only superficial, cosmetic injuries.
I understand people who love animals and have objections to hunters, it's completely legitimate. I'm just interested in how much they care about the animals when they need to be fed in the winter and make a drinking list in the summer. In my hunting area, such people are not welcome and I would be forced to "show them where the exit is"

I would volunteer for the firing squad, severe beating assembly, surgical neutering team (with a dull rusty blade), or whatever treatment we could yield! These people are on the same rung of life as poachers and that's only one rung above a child molester!
I hope the victim has a speedy recovery, but he will ever forth have mental duress over the attack.

As a retired forest officer, I had issued the order to all of my forest guards that anybody who harasses a person hunting legally in any of my forests… would be publicly made an example of, immediately. A few antis tried to be “Heroes” early on in my career, but soon nobody dared to harass a legal hunter anymore. Somebody who did this to a legal hunter in any of my forests, would never be leaving the forest out on his two legs unassisted ever again. If they managed to leave the forest at all…

In my opinion, the modern European concept of “Human Rights” only seems to apply to the rights of individuals who follow certain political ideologies. And doesn’t seem to include the hunters as people eligible to have “Human Rights”.

Belgium rivals Great Britain as one of Europe’s most anti hunting nations in modern times.

By comparison; France, Spain, Italy, Germany (to some extent), Austria, Czech Republic & Finland are more pro hunting.

I hope he has a swift recovery. I hope the police find this guy and he's prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I must have missed the connection to Pentax. Are they involved with anti hunting activity? If they are we should all boycott them.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that Europeans, along with Canadians and Australians have been so indoctrinated against the idea of self defence that they just can't do it. I see the same thing here in large cities where only the criminals are armed. I don't think, however, that most anti-hunters would try to physically attack an armed.hunter. Good way to get shot.

You are definitely right

I would certainly go unarmed to investigate here. If you were seen carrying a firearm and acting in any way that could be perceived to be aggressive or threatening, it would almost certainly result in a lifetime ban on firearms ownership and probably a criminal prosecution.

That is the issue we have here is that animal rights campaigners will sometimes try to provoke a reaction. I have only seen it once on a pheasant shoot and we were all firmly instructed to put our guns in slips and lock them away before we went home early.

We have a small number of 'Wildlife Monitors' in our area who will tour the countryside looking for organised shoots. As far as I can see it, it will only get worse here.

My brother and I have some land on the edge of a large village. It is full of roe, but we don't even try to manage them as it just isn't worth the trouble.

The foxes and lynx will do it for free. It would be nice to have a property that did not have public access, but I don't think this is possible.

I will hunt the big troop areas here in Germany if get in. Beyond that life is easier in Eastern Europe. Even in Slovenia hikers are a problem.

I understand your concern and how this could possibly result in the country where it happened.
Self defense against numbers is self defense.
In THIS country, there would have been consequences for the criminals.
I am always armed, when in the bush - shotgun with slugs, unless hunting.

That's an ill-informed over generalization.

We are quite within our rights to defend ourselves within the law and many Canadian citizens do so daily. (Cross the border and test your theory at your peril.)

For your edification.

This poor unfortunate Belgian man was disabled (dislocated shoulder) and was unable to protect himself from the sociopath that continued to attack him after he was down.

I fail to understand why he would go in there unarmed. Then I fail to understand why there were no bodies.
Why do you think he was unarmed? He was hunting. Shooting someone even in self defense will get you arrested in Europe, Australia and probably Canada.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark
