Ammunition in Original Package or in an MTM box in Locked Case?

I agree about the heavy ammo problems, last year I took over a 404 Jeffery’s and a 470 NE, I use the 20 round MTM boxes inside a pelican case and 30 rounds each was near maximum weight without the case. I’ve never had ammo weighed , but Air Canada says weight of the ammo. So haven’t worried about the case weight
Yes, this is the point where it seems that there is a fair amount of inconsistency and "initiative" on the part of the airline agents, some favorable, and some unfavorable. There have been reports on various threads, right here on africahunting.com, of people having their ammo weighted either with or without the box.
I am like AB2506 on this, I want to be OK with the most restrictive scenario so that the trip does not turn into a stress test. So, I consider ammo + box, and even for good measure + TSA lock. That way, I am safe
One Day, thanks for all the info. You and Brickburn got me to this point.
As your PH will certainly be fond of saying: "Pleasure!" :)

We had the same problem with having to come up with a new bag for ammunition when travelling by air from Johannesburg to Windhoek. It was a total surprise to us and our travel agent but apparently it was standard procedure. The prospect of having to easily prove that our ammo. met the weight requirements was a concern so we went a different route by putting factory boxes into the lightest locking containers we could find.

The thread "Has anyone had ammunition checked for weight?" is related (I think  ) as there are discussions on how we all box up our ammo to keep the lock box light. REF: https://www.africahunting.com/threads/has-anyone-had-ammunition-checked-for-weight.47840/

I chimed in with what I do:

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
