Hey guys I'm over here in southeast GA and once again I haven't had time to hit the woods even once this year. I'm going to be in Alvin (just south of Houston) TX the weekend of Jan 3, are there any deer outfitters or guides within a few hours of there that I can try? I know it's late season believe me in pissed that I haven't hunted at all this season and I swore this will be the year I finally get one. Thanks for any help here

I would try to get as far south down the cost as you can,

Are you willing to drive to Victoria, TX? “All seasons guide service”.
Has some ranches leased for deer around Victoria for native deer. Contact them.

Beautiful area and so much history and ranching heritage. Nice chocolate horned bucks to boot

Lots of “deer farms” close and around Houston with just pet deer and exotics eating hay. No thanks

Go hunt a real Texas cattle ranch.

Try pintail hunting club in Garwood. However, without looking it up, the season may be over or be the very end by then. There should be an extended season further south and west of Houston.

Season is all the same,

Just most south Texas ranches have MLDP permits. So will still be special white tail season even in Jan.

Jan 3 will also be prime Nilgai rut. @Axle2010 have you thought about a Nilgai hunt? Great spot and stalk fun and within 4 hours of Alvin. That’s a short drive for a Texan haha.

Regardless, you should reach out to All seasons guide service and see what they can draw up for you

Yeah I'm not trying to shoot pet deer either, not even for my first one. I thought about trying Tatonka Creek since I've talked to them about a buffalo hunt for my dad when he gets healed up but idk anything about their deer hunt success. I've seen several Nilgai hunts especially with Tim Wells, do they eat good? Not much horn....

I would cross tatonka ranch off the list… same with a “Texas Bison” hunt. That place looks like a petting zoo to the max!

No hate, just want to be honest lol.

Yes Nilgai eat extremely good. That is what they are known for. Horn size and trophy is all relative for species. To each their own. Shoot cow Nilgai maybe? Same hunt and great meat.

Contact the outfitter I mentioned for native deer and free range Nilgai.

I don’t think affordable and white tailed deer hunt can go together in Texas!

Nilgai are good to eat, and they are anything but tame pets. They have a sixth sense to know when to run!!!

Yeah I know but I'm out of options this season unfortunately. The good thing is that being from down here a 120" is a big un for me. Thanks dchum that's one reason I was thinking about going out there before paying for the buffalo hunt, see what it looks like. Dad don't want to shoot a critter just standing in a pasture any more than I do.

You can shoot a nice chocolate free range 130”-140” buck for $3,500

Not too bad for a quality area and service!

The issue is stateside people want to hunt big game for 500 bucks lol.

See what that gets you

North & south zone but I’m not sure where the line is
  • North Zone): November 1, 2025 – January 6, 2026.
    • General Season (South Zone): November 1, 2025 – January 18, 2026.

And like I said MLDP will make that a non issue as both zones will be pushed to February!

Don’t you claim to be a guide?
Hwy 90 and I-10 form the north south zone for Texas hunting regulations

Alvin is south of that line anyways. Thanks for copy and pasting an AI response too haha.

@Axle2010 I wish you good luck and same for your father’s future hunt. PM anytime and I’d love to help you guys. Cheers

I-10/HWY 90 is not the dividing line for TX whitetail regulations, it’s drawn on a county line

Agree that if hunting on MLD it’s a non-issue

Here you go amigos

@Axle2010 sorry we derailed your thread.

Like I said, PM if you start to make it happen. I want to help you have a great hunt and really enjoy south Texas.

Yeah that’s the divide line for duck zones I-10 & 90 & west of 277
It gets confusing with deer , ducks, geese all having multiple zones now

Nice, that’s hwy 90 making the south west border and cutting straight through the middle of counties until it gets to Bexar.

Then you are correct passed Bexar. It does not follow I-10. I stand corrected on that!

Thank you for sharing.
I know this all too well, as I’m just north of the boundary east of SA! Always miss those extra days in January

I will second this recommendation. Mike runs honest no bs hunts. I’ve hunted with him, fished with him, and sent clients to him. You will have good food and a good experience. However, don’t be surprised if all of his slots are sold out for this year.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
