BF I'm familiar with John's writings on loading the 9.3X62 and have talked with him on the subject. I tried using Big Game powder but started showing pressure signs well before the listed maximums showed. I've used W760 with good results but right now I've settled on RL-15. I'm getting slightly faster than factory velocities and excellent accuracy. Rl-17 seems to be the velocity king and yes it's possible to near match 9.3X64 specs. BUT,... I'm not a velocity chaser. I'll take accuracy first every time. Excess velocity causes over expansion (or complete bullet failure) and limits penetration. The 9.3X62 has been harvesting big game for a long time at 2350fps for a long time. the only thing that really held it back was bullets that failed and broke up on impact. Now days bullets like A-Frames, North Fork, Barnes and Woodleigh have brought out the true potential of this grand cartridge. Frankly, I'll stick with what works and the warp speed crowd can have their Ear Splitten Loudenboomers. LOL.

Hey guys I just bought some Ramshot Big Game Smokeless Rifle powder. Midway has a great sale on it right now at $39 with free shipping. Is the one please?

Got it and thanks! QL says 58.5 grains of Big Game Powder gives 2400 FPS at 99.4% fill rate within PSI. Perfect!

My CZ 550 American 9.3x62. I bought this rilfe off of another AH member who had taken mule deer, cow elk and audad prior to my ownership. I have new glass bedding, Timney trigger, AHR three position safety. Talley Rings. Leupold 2x10 fire dot CDS. Awesome sling..thanks CBeck! This rifle took a lot of critters in Zambia this summer and I plan on using it as my primary deer and hog rifle this year back home in Arkansas. Loaded 250 Aframes at 2550, it shoots them very well, but honestly i didn't like the lack of expansion in nearly every case on PG. I am going to plain old 286 PPI softs for deer and pigs.

Interesting about you speaking with John B. about his loads. I will admit that it's been a few years since he wrote that article about his loads for the 9.3x62. I've been meaning to try Big Game powder in my 9.3x62 but I haven't done so yet.

I hear you about RL-15 and the 9.3x62. I've been out of the shooting game for that past 15+ years or so and I'm just now easing my way back into it. I just kind of lost interest after my trip to SA in 2005 and I moved on to some other hobbies. (Spent some money on astronomical telescopes; nothing really fancy.) I'm now renewing my interest in shooting and I quickly found out that the times have certainly changed in the shooting world!

IMO, the only problem with RL-15 and RL-17 powders is trying to find some! I think Alliant has gotten out of the powder business (or least selling it to civilian consumers). That came as a big surprise to me. I had good luck with RL-15 in my .35 Whelen and 9.3x62. Now I have to start over and work up some loads; which I have gotten off my lazy rear end and done yet.

Anyway. . . Here's my load that I used in South Africa back in 2005. It worked just fine.

BF thanks for the reply. I've been reloading for 60+ years now and really enjoy it. John is a true gentleman and a pleasure to talk with. I managed to lay in a good supply of RL-15 before the dry spell hit. The Reloader powders are manufactured in Sweden I believe and most of their production is now going to military contracts (Ukraine) and are likely to be scarce for some time. Like I said, try W760. Takes more powder (I've used loads up to 63.0grn) and will have moderate compression at max loads but I never had pressure signs and very good velocities. Big Game just didn't work in my rifle.
Shooting 4 different medium bore rifles the 9.3X62 has become my favorite medium. Do keep in touch. And that's a very good Warthog in that picture.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.
