The .577/.600 nitro thread has me curious - has anyone personally, or know of anyone, who’s taken a .585 cartridge to hunt africa, but not the NE, I mean like a .577 Tyrannosaur, .585 Nyati, .575 GMA etc.

They’re a cool concept, not necessary but neat.
Wish MRC still made the PH size action - there’s an idea I’d love to have one squirrelled away for.. (anyone have one they’d part with, feel free to send a pm?)

I have a P14 action if you are interested

I’m collaborating with someone now to build me a custom .585 Nyati. I guess the .505 Gibbs isn’t enough

I’m picturing on the barrel. .585 Nyati in cursive script with a gold inlaid Buffalo head

This is perhaps of interest:

I thought the whole purpose was having enough energy to stop with one shot. So it’s important to practice and know if you can put the first shot near the CNS.

Flewis, can we see those .585s
Looks like your rifle is about ready to come together. Nice action work. I have about 50 rounds of brass now and a guy I work with is supposed to be sending me more. Who ever is doing the work on yours looks like he is on top of it. I’m thinking about going with the MPI A2 stock on one of mine. The other is built on a bbk action and has pretty good wood and is very lite for a 585. I like lite.

I'm tempted to say "What the AF???".

But I have exactly 2 friends with anything bigger than a 338WM, and they all look at me with my 404J like I've lost my mind.

I've a .585 Hubel Express on a Montana PH, the round looks like a .458 lott on steroids.

Certus, what in particular do you like about the safety ?

Here are the details off what I bought from the sale posting.

The kit of parts represents everything you need to build the rifle other than a recoil pad and modifications to the bottom Enfield metal and bolt face for the conversion. Included is a 21” McGowen barrel 0.585”, NECG Masterpiece banded front ramp, custom 505 Gibbs magazine follower and heavy magazine spring. Enfield 1917 inletted Bastogne stock blank with good AA grain and grain flow through wrist and oversized forend for inlet and shaping, 59 pieces of new Bertram Basic 585 Nyati brass, new set of CH4D dies, shell holder, new PTG chamber reamer for 585 Nyati, 40 Barnes Triple Shock and 20 Barnes flat point solids. I would like $1750 shipped for these parts which is just a bit less than what I have in them.

Included is a 1917 Enfield complete action with adjustable trigger, cock on closing kit installed, filled island, drilled and tapped, bolt face opened to magnum, nice sporter bolt handle. The action is FREE with purchase of project parts above.

The problem with stopping a big game is that you have to be able to fire a second or even a third shot very quickly. Due to the strong recoil, I doubt if something like this is possible with cartridges like the 585 Nyati .

That's a good looking piece of timber you have there @Altitude sickness - should be a beauty! Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
