Yes, it is a great option...I would want to build this .500 Jeffery like the Traditional rifle from the early 1904 . It still will be possible to build the 1/4 rib and the v-express sight , this combination van slide into the quarter rib like my .375 H&H Magnum. It will be the same design..

Here is the 1/4 rib on my .375 H&H Magnum..the v-express sight with flip up distance indicators slide in onto the 1/4 rib via a dove tail slide. When fitting the ghost ring on the shroud of the action I will drift out the v-express sight, slide in a flat based steel insert..

That looks too high and prone to damage. Not what I would do on a 500 Jeff which is obviously for dg and needs to be 100% reliable....from all sides. Magnum arms makes a great low profile ghost ring for ZKK

I only need to improve the ghost ring , ring and stem , the ghost ring as I have it currently on the .375 H&H Magnum I use shoot warthogs with while walk and stalk.
No, I do not buy any item from a shop if I can build it myself. The whole reason I am building my own .500 Jeffery is because I can.

Then check it out and build it....

Either the BRNO ZKK602, the CZ 550 Magnum, a BBK-02, Dakota M76 African, or one of the Magnum Mauser 98 actions from the Famous Amos makers,
any would be far easier to get up and running as a working rifle.
More work ahead if you want to use a standard M98 action.

Your barrel description did not include twist rate.
CIP 508mm or 1:20" for .500 Jeffery.
Go with the CIP .500 Jeffery for most universal standardization.

D. J. Lewis had W. J. Jeffery Rifle with serial number 25356.
Barrel was 24" long. No muzzle diameter specified.
It had a measured twist rate of 463.55mm or 1:18.25", 7-grooved.

I used a stainless McGowen No. 6 "Light Target" standard contour, 1:20" twist, 8-groove.
It finished up at 24" length having 0.820" diameter at the muzzle.
The 1.200" diameter cylinder shank ("Knoxform" if I wish) was 3" long then a straight taper to the muzzle.
Plenty heavy on a CZ 550 Magnum action.
Bertha will be about 11 pounds in a heavily reinforced laminated wood stock.

For a standard M98 action I would want a Sterling Davenport job like this one, found at a previous link on this thread:

Sterling Davenport built the .500 Jeffery sort of like a .500 Schuler -Jumbo/12.7x70mm on a standard M98. Vertical stack magazine, different bottom latch.
He also did them on standard M98 actions with staggered-stack, drop-belly magazines,
like the one I got to shoot in Oklahoma.
I wonder which chamber this rifle actually has and what year it was built ?
Sterling Davenport mastered the ".500 Jeffery."
Rifle above has a 21" barrel length, 0.845" diameter at the muzzle, Mag-Na-Ported.
Rifle weight is 9.46 lbs. Yippee-ki-yay.

CIP homologated the .500 Jeffery on 12 January 1999, revised 15 February 2000.
It matches the 1928 Kynoch drawing.

CIP homologated the 12.7x70mm (.500 Schuler) on 27 January 1999, revised 20 April 2000.
It matches the 1940 RWS drawing that must have been copied from Richard Schuler's specifications
that surely existed before 1927 as the ".500 Schuler-Jumbo."

Shucks, I was having two .500 A-Square rifles built in 1999,
one on a BRNO ZKK 602, and one on a Ruger No. 1.
It is about time I got Big Bertha the .500 Jeffery shooting.

I am going to offer to apprentice with the gunsmith to help him with his backlog.
That might motivate him to finish it before I "apprentice."

Walther offer 500 Jeff barrel in 1 in 17.7 twist....

Looking great Deon, I am going for a working rifle. Like my 404 Jeffery Westley Richards it does not have whistles and bells with golden inlay.

The American Black Wall Nut wood will not be as nearly nice as your wood, since I will be using it on walk and stalk hunts . If it scratches I want to be able to sand out the scratches and add a finishing layer myself..

All the work on the build I will do myself except the barrel, I bought the barrel from Frans Odendaal of Eagle Barrels. I already have a Eagle barrel on the .375 H&H Magnum and it is really accurate.

The Mauser MOD 98 action and bottom metal conversion will be build in the same manner as what a Spanish friend of mine build his .500 Jeffery Mauser action.

This looks to be a great build in the .500 Jeffery caliber rifle for sure..I like the 21" inch barrel, mine will eventually be cut and crowned at 22 " inches , it will be a working rifle for walk and stalk hunts as well as a fun shoot and entertaining rifle at our club shoots ..

Anyone have any Woodleigh 535 gr bullets they would be willing to part with?? I have shot through my stash already preparing for my safari in August.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
