416 rem mag now that r15 is not to be found what powder do you use?

I have only ussd relosder 15 for all my 416 rem mag loads .There is none to be found these days becsuse of the war in urikraine .I face the same problem with my 338-378 weatherby using r25 none to br found .I did buy the only keg of r15 this summer but its in Alaska .I hope both of them return .These to big rounds are keg eaters too use alot of powder.

RL15 is available from time to time. Precision Reloading had some over the weekend. Powder Valley occasionally gets it also.

15.5 is close. I tested it in my 450 against one lot of 15 that I have. Was suprised to see that it was faster. Probably just needs about 2 grains less on a 80ish grain charge.

I'll second Varget powder, I've had really good luck using it in the 416 Remington magnum and a 400 grain Swift A-frame. So far I've been lucky enough that the same load works and groups well in all 4 of my 416 Remington mags! It's nice knowing that I can just grab a box of ammo and go hunting or to the range!

Varget is very very close to RL15, a good choice. CFE223 is the slighly slower burning ball-powder version, but gives more speed in many instances

The problem with Varget versus RL15 versus IMR3031 in many of the big guns is the recoil.

3031 and RL15 (in that order) use fewer grains of powder to achieve velocity which effects recoil. (part of felt recoil formula is powder weight squared)

RL15 has a slightly heavier minimum starting weight than Varget in most cartridges including the .416 Rem. Even if it did not, Varget is so much more temperature stable than RL15, it is a preferable choice to me.

3031 is not a recommended powder for the .416 Rem, at least not by Barnes or Nosler. This cartridge has, or in the past had, a reputation for being prone to excessive pressure issues, so it is not one I have tried any loads other than by the book and stay on the milder side of those too.
