.416 Rem Mag Issue

I use this on all my rifles, so far up to .458WM.

I would stay away from any type of one piece mount - I feel that it obstructs access to the magazine.

I would lap the rings, make sure that the surfaces of the rings meet tightly and square, and, if that fails, I would be tempted to put some locktite inside the rings to hold the scope under recoil.

I am sure that a good gunsmith will have seen this problem, so the easy way out is to take to that guy.
I can and have loaded my 404J Mauser 98 with my eyes closed. The rail is absolutely no impediment to loading or cycling. Warne QD rings and aftermarket rail cost less than $200 Canadian funds. Holds zero. The rail is held on with only three screws, two forward and one back.

416 Rem Magnum may have more recoil than 404J but I doubt the difference is significant.

It is an R8 scope mount. It's not the same. The one thing I nor found of on the R8 scope rings are the halves. They are 65%35% bottom (I could be off one way or the other on the ratio). So you have to flex the tops out of round to get them over the scope. I'm not a fan of that. That said my 458Lott scope has not moved.

I'm curious as to what scope @Glenn Slaven was running. Was it a slick finish of matt?

The Zeiss 1-4. I ended up using liquid electrical tape and just cementing that thing into the mounts. Do it is dedicated to that barrel now. Lol. Figured it’s only money and the rifle and scope are tools. So I just said “send it” and ended up with a buff

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
