.375 reduced loads

Heading to the FTW ranch for SAAM training. They recommend bringing some reduced loads for the 375. Most of the loads I can find use Accurate 5744 but I can find any of that available. Does anyone have a source or manual showing some reduced load data?

I can source lightweight speer bullets Chris but want to know I have a load for them before ordering. Hate to wast all my a frames on training.

H4895 and 270 gr bullets from Hornady or speer.
H 4895 can be reduced to even 60% of max load without detriment ( google reduced loads), even around 50-52 gr would give you about 2000 fps. which should be pretty soft shooting.

Disclaimer I do not recommend this as the reduced loads are below the “safe” listed minimum velocity. The key is to watch the velocity spread.

Trailboss is the ultimate but good luck finding it. That and some 200gr sierra 38-55 bullets make a .375 h&h into a literal pop gun.

H4895 reduced loads are fun as well. Most manuals have loads listed for that 200gr sierra bullet.

Modern Reloading Manual, 2nd edition, by Richard Lee, includes several reduced loads for .375 H&H using different bullets.

I used Hornady's minimum load of Varget for 270 gr Interlock, 2310 fps out of my wife's Ruger #1H Tropical, for about 28 ft lbs. I could shoot that all day.

My favorite reduced load is 235 TSX over 65 grains of H4895. This is no pipsqueak load. It’s similar to 35 Whelen but feels pretty mild in the typical 375 H&H.

I find some Speer 200 gr bullets and it looks like they will work with H4895 which is also available. I’m going to put in an order today and give that a try.

Lack of components is a real drag these days.

I realize this wasn't exactly what you were looking for, but I'll tell you what I did for my young children so they could hunt dangerous game with a 375HH.

Step 1: We increased the rifle's weight. 10.5lb with optic.

Step 2: We utilized Nosler 260gr solids and the corresponding 260gr accubond softs.

Step 3: We utilized a known light-recoiling powder, IMR4064.

Step 4: We loaded them quite light. Lance Hendershot helped us with this endeavor.

Net results: 26lbs of felt recoil. Ballistically, they produced exactly the same energy as a 9.3x62mm max load. While not an ideal dangerous game load, it was a lawful and satisfactory load assuming a parent and PH were backing the kid with stopping rifles.

To put it in perspective: It was producing about the same recoil as a max 180gr 30-06 published load. All accomplished with 1.) grain weight of bullet minor reduction, 2.) selectivity for the lowest recoiling powder to achieve correct velocity, 3.) by using a slightly heavier gun to further diminish recoil.

The above might be a pleasurable target load for you that is wholly acceptable for real-world hunting use as well.

I made some very light loads to get started with my 375 Ruger. I have a lot of IMR 4227 around, used that. I don’t have my load here, could be lighter than you want to go. One thing I like about older manuals, more likely to list reduce load options.

Of course the 375 Ruger is a newer round, so not in the older manuals. I was able to track down reputable data somewhere, maybe including a small amount of ‘interpolation’ with similar cartridges.

Have fun at SAAM! It is quite an experience.

I use Trailboss a lot for my large bores. It is so pleasant to shoot, I can practice without the need to call my orthopedist for an appointment. Try it, you'll like it. It tames the NE and Rigby, just plain fun in the .375 H&H, and .458 WM. Load it per the recommendations. I've found very little difference in accurachy from the starting load to the "max" loads. And it is very accurate.
