I never followed up on this thread last year. I did indeed bring both my 375 and 416. Ended up using my 375 for everything. The elephant went down with a single brain shot. The 300gr CEB solid went through her head and out her neck. She melted to the ground and never moved another muscle. The cape buffalo was also shot through the brain, due to that being the only shot I had in thick cover. That was done with a 300gr TSX. So yes, the 375 will do it all. Not that very many people doubt that by now....

I have another trip to Zimbabwe planned for 2023. Tuskless Elephant and Cape Buffalo are back on the menu. This time I'll be bringing my R8 with both 458 and 375 barrels. I'll use the 458 on the elephant and buffalo. But, that's more because I want to, rather than feeling I need to. Just want to shoot something big with a 458. But if I'm caught with the 375 barrel bolted on, and opportunity comes along, I'll still be covered very nicely.
Can I ask if the CEB solid shot to the same POI as the 300g TSX? Also what velocity were they doing. Reason for asking is with my 375 the 270g solids shot 4 inches away from the 300g TSX so I’m looking to find a solid that matches POI better

I don’t know about Toby, but my Model 70 shoots the 300 grain CEB solids and the 300 grain TSXs in the same spot. 2600 fps

Good question. Yes, both loads shot together very closely. I used Barnes Vortex 300gr TSX factory loads, and handloaded 300gr CEB solids. The velocity of the TSX load was right on 2550 fps. I simply loaded my CEB bullets to the same velocity, and the POI is the same.

At what distance are these references being made please.

I ask because at fifty yards everything is bloody similar in the .375. At 100 yards and 200 yards it's not that far apart allegedly as long as one follows the age old velocities. Shooting of elephant is done quite close by my study so I'm trying to understand the different datums being used to get 4" off vs. same POI vs. same POI.

My shooting was at 75 yards. I wouldn't shoot at an Elephant at that distance, but having a solid that shoots in the same group with your softs is definitely a good thing.

I would like to delete my last post on the the thread where to hunt big cape buffalo. I haven't been to that area for a few years and it may be very different now. Not fair of me to post this.

Pheroze: I was intrigued by the blog on 400, 465 H&H in which you stated you were having a rifle reamed out to accomodate the larger bore. Who is doing the work for you, do they then provide cut rifling or buttoned. Will a 375 H&H rechamber to the 400 H&H. Is there much ballistic difference between it and the 404/375
