375/404

I was looking on accurate reloader and they were using this caliber on everything from warthog to hippo. Cant find any information on this caliber, does anyone know anything about it like what companies manufacture it and what company would be willing to make a rifle in this caliber?

You would be way better off with a 375 RUM. Ballistically very similar. Neither are belted. The 375 RUM is readily available.

If you really want something different, email Saeed. I am sure he will share his info with you. The gunsmith he used to build it is Dwight Scott. A 416 Dakota case is necked down to 375 for brass. I guess Dwight has the reamer.

Like Mike said the 375 RUM is dang near the same thing--with a lot less trouble.

I had a 378 for a time and wished I'd have just gone 375 RUM.

375 RUM is the 375 Remington Ultra Magnum. Go to Remington's site for info.

The 375 H&H will do just about anything that either will do also. If you are new to the game the H&H may be a better choice. Less recoil and has been killing everything on the face of the earth for 100 years.

Saeed, uses a 375 wildcat based on a 404 jeffery case for everything that he shoots. Some posters there have tried to duplicate it. Essentially it is about the same as a 375 RUM or a 375 WBY. If you want that much velocity in a 375 I would agree that it would be easier to just buy a RUM or Weatherby. Factory ammo is available as are reloading components. Many of the gun scribes question the value of extra velocity in the 375 as the standard 375 H&H has a well earned reputation for excellent penetration. They contend that the extra fps just get used up after the bullet exits the animal. Saeed swears by his hybrid though. Be careful which bullets you load in these as the high velocities attained by these calibers can exceed the performance envelope of some soft points. Saeed manufactures his own monometal bullets.

Not only is the 375rum similar to the 375/404 it is the same cartridge. This was a wildcat for years they were called the canadian series. All remington did was call it a different name. All the rums are based off the 404.

I have witnessed Saeed shoot probably 50 or more buffalo with his 375/404 and his 416/404. Saeed is an outstanding shot and kills them everytime, never wounded one that I know of. They didn't make many tracks, so its a great caliber IMO. The .375 RUM etc is certainly just as good. I find the .375 H&H sufficient for buffalo under any circumstances except perhaps a frontal shot with softs, but I still use solids on buffalo and have never had a complaint about them.
