Does anyone here use a 32 win special? I just picked up a nice pre-64 94 carbine.
I ordered brass, bullets, and dies tonight and will load some when I get the stuff.
Looking over load data indicates that it will have a 150 or so FPS advantage over the 30-30 that it will be replacing. I’m not too worried about gaining that 150 feet as I’ve never been disappointed with the 30-30.
Truthfully I wish the rifle was in 30-30 but it was a bargain so I can deal with it.

I have used one a few times but I could not tell any difference between it and a 30-30.

One of my dads old friends was telling me how much better it was than dads 30-30.
Probably around 92.
Told him I didn’t think there would be much difference in them I believe both were using 170 silver tips.
He offered to let me try his.
I think I took 2 deer with it.
I honestly don’t remember anything any more than the 30-30 load.
At 125 and In I would rather my 44 mag than either.

I currently have my father-in-law's 1940's .32 and my grandfather's brother hunted with one until the day he died. You don't gain much speed over a 30-30 but the larger diameter bullet makes all the difference. Shoot heavier bullets than the standard 30-30 round and you will see a difference. They both talk about knocking deer flat with it. It's a cheap, fun round to shoot with cast bullets too. If you don't have all the brass you want, order some of this quick as they are going out of business in the next couple weeks. Just received my order last week. https://www.millworksbrass.com/Store/#!/32-Winchester-New-Starline-Brass-Qty-100/p/446296803

I had a M 94 carbine in 32 Win Special. 1st or 2nd year of production in pristine condition. They, IIRC, had a slow twist bore and were kind of a hold over from cast bullet, black powder days. Great nostalgia but I found accuracy so-so because of the slow twist. Don’t discount lighter bullets if accuracy doesn’t live up expectations.

The 32 Special is "special"; the 30-30 is not. I'm not knocking the 30-30 as it's the only rifle I've ever taken big game with AND mine was my dad's, so it has a spot in my heart and always will. I'm only saying that since you are a hand loader, it's more fitting that you've chosen something off the beaten path to enjoy. That's the fun of hand loading for me. I don't spend much time loading the standards; it's the off-beats, the misfits, and the ne'er-do-wells that are interesting for load development. Especially if you won't find it in a box on a shelf.

If you want it like a 30-30 I dont think you will be disappointed just ammo ability .
If you just got it because it was cheap
Maybe JES and make it a 38-55?

If I get a 30-30 or a 32 at a really good price that what I was thinking.
I made a offer on a post 64 1894 in 30-30 with supposedly 2 bullets stuck in the barrel
( reloads with no powder from a gun show sandwich bag ammo)

If he takes it . It will be going for the 38-55 treatment

My dad has my grandfather’s 32 Winchester special, made in the early 1940s. He’s taking a few deer in Wyoming with the rifle, and apparently, the rifle and round were very accurate, as my grandfather was a crack shot. Haven’t ever really messed with the load data. Just used federal over-the-counter boxed ammunition.

I now have 300 cases coming so I should be good on ammo. I’m looking around at getting a RCBS 32-170 bullet mold to cheapen up my plinking.
No need for the mold. Get these and save yourself the time and effort.

It is a lot of work, but I really do enjoy casting. Honestly, for no more than I will probably shoot it, I’ll probably just load the 170 Hornady interlocks. I shot the 30-30 about 50 or 100 rounds per year, so I shouldn’t go broke at that pace.

Nope but a box of 500 for $66 is hard to beat.

Had a chance to pick one up (Marlin) for about 450 a few years back and passed on it. Not my finest moment.

My older brother got the early Mod 94 from my grandfather’s collection and it was a beauty. I finally got one of my own 4-5 years ago. I love it. Had trouble acquiring ammo, but I’m set now.

Boy there’s just something about those 94 carbines! That one looks sharp. I don’t think I can ever be without one. Easily in my top three favorite rifles.

I have a Win 94 in 32 special made in the early 50's and have used it extensively on bear and deer. I find it easy to carry, comfortable in the hand and plenty accurate. That rifle and I have made many happy memories together.

Had one for years used it on a lot of cattle and a few deer and never had any complaints mine gave a noticeable increase over a 30-30 but the one I had was a rifle not a carbine and had a 28 inch barrel.

I just recently picked up this Winchester model 64 in .32. I'd never had a 32WS either, always preferring 30WCF, but it was too good a deal to pass up. I actually really like it and maybe it's just the 4" of extra barrel but it does shoot different than my 336 Texan .30-30. I'm hoping to take a deer with it this fall.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
