You didn't settle. You acquired a classic rifle in a classic caliber that will kill deer just as dead as a .30-30, with a little more style and a little less commonality. Load up some 170 grain flat points, zero it at 150 yards, and go hunting. You'll be smiling.

Does anyone here use a 32 win special? I just picked up a nice pre-64 94 carbine.
I ordered brass, bullets, and dies tonight and will load some when I get the stuff.
Looking over load data indicates that it will have a 150 or so FPS advantage over the 30-30 that it will be replacing. I’m not too worried about gaining that 150 feet as I’ve never been disappointed with the 30-30.
Truthfully I wish the rifle was in 30-30 but it was a bargain so I can deal with it.

Slightly better than a 30-30 but not quite as good as a 35 Remington. But in a Winchester 94 a very nice piece.

Always wanted to try a 35 Remington, but never found the right one. I got to handle a marlin 336 in 35R one time but I thought he wanted too much for it.

Had a guy let me use one for a bit. Then he Tryed to sell it to me.

There was probably less than 25% blueing left but it was not pitted. I was still kinda young so looks matterd a bit.

75$ and it came with 2 1/2 box’s of old Winchester silver tips the old red and yellow boxes
If you pointed the rifle up hit the releas the pump would drop point it down it would close
That smoth from use.
Oh I like the pice of brass that looked like a cartridge head to show caliber of the rifle.

I’ve had a few of them they’ve all been good shooters had pump Remington in 25-20 for years as well that was a sweet little rifle

I’m the same way myself I’ve used both but of the two I’d rather a Winchester , I’d take a 99 savage over either though.

Plenty of us run .32 Winchester Special in pre 64 94 carbines it's a cult favorite among lever guys for exactly the reason you snagged yours a bargain that punches above its weight.

The 150 fps edge over .30-30 especially with 170gr loads often 2200-2300 fps vs 2100-2200 in a 20" carbine is noticeable on paper and gives a bit more energy penetration, but in the woods under 150 yards, it's practically identical to .30-30 for deer hogs. Bigger .321" hole means slightly better wound channels with soft points or cast, and many say it thumps a tad harder. Factory Hornady LeverEvolution 165gr FTX or Winchester 170gr are solid starters if you want plug and play.

Reloading unlocks the fun Use .30-30 data as a baseline same case family, but start low and work up plenty of room for cast bullets 165-200gr that the slower 1:16 twist loves great for black powder if you ever try it. Brass is available Starline, etc., dies cheap, and you can neck up .30-30 brass easy. Components aren't as plentiful as .30-30, but not rare Hornady, Sierra, Lyman bullets work great.

Since you got a steal on a nice pre 64 those are butter smooth and hold value, embrace it shoot cast for cheap practice, jacketed for hunting. You'll probably end up liking it more than the .30-30 you wanted; the extra oomph and rarity make it special without being overkill.

Yea I know a lot of people don’t like scopes on leaver actions.
But in the deep woods or swamps the scope let’s you hunt up to legal time.
Can’t see the open sights very well anywhere near dark

I have a Rossi in 44 the 92 copy I like it better than I thought I would

Would the extra speed for the same weight bullets make for less penetration? And less sd with the 32 cal with same weight bullets?
Or did Winchester make the jacket heavier in the 32?

I hope so. I was just looking around at arsenal molds and they have a 32 170 flat nose gas check that looks pretty good for $85. But really the Hornady and Speer jacketed options are reasonable enough.
I have some H4895 and Accurate 4064 to try in it. I will be happy with any good accurate load over 2000fps.
I sold my post 64 94 carbine in 30-30 to a buddy while I was looking at this 32. I was standing there drooling and complaining how I really couldn’t afford and he offered to buy my 30-30.

I had a Redfield peep sight on my 30-30 that really helped in low light.

No scopes allowed on a M94 32WS. Bear down on the front sight and concentrate. Every first deer from me and my two brothers were taken with this rifle. My grandson will learn from it as well.

Not to throw a skunk in the room, but did I read that the twist rate was slow on the 32 and it lost accuracy potential too soon as a result? (Or is there a 32 Rem, don't remember) Granted we shouldn't believe all that we read.
