3 Year Plan

Raising a wine glass filled with an old vintage for all my brother hunters who seek to take more from life than life takes from them. Onward and upwards!

Good luck to everyone in their long-term hunt and outdoor planning. I am currently scheduled for:

October 2026 - Nepal, Blue Sheep (bharal).
August 2027 - Zimbabwe, Nonexportable Elephant.
February 2028 - Cameroon - Lord Derby Eland.

Possible very long-term future plans - another equatorial jungle hunt in Cameroon, Canada Arctic Hunt, baited leopard, fishing trips along African coasts & Indian Ocean, mountain nyala in Ethiopia??

Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

One of my bucket list items is to taste moose meat. It is the only hunt outside Scotland and Africa that temps me. I could be easily tempted to go to Canada to hunt one
I’ve eaten plenty of moose meat but from loose that were hit by vehicles. A winch on my deck over trailer helps with road kill.
They taste amazing, especially a roast in the winter crockpot.

@Rare Breed, moose is some of the finest wild game I’ve ever eaten. Right up there with eland. Calling one in during the rut is about as exciting and action packed as a hunt can be. You wouldn’t regret a proper moose hunt for sure.

Any body have any plans changed?

Mine changed up some as of now.
I accomplished more than anticipated with Bos en Dal this June 2024. With the Rhino dart hunt.

2025 and 2026 are break from Africa. Work, save and get healthy.

Dalton York hunt bumped to May 2027 now with 18-21 days in Omay. Leopard, Tuskless, Hippo, Hyena, Buff, plus some plains game I still need. This will be a trip of a lifetime if all comes together!
My plans changed drastically. Due to family and health issues.
2026. Leave in less than two weeks for Mozambique with Tsala. Non trophy Elephant Bull and hippo.
2027 uncertain with family issues and job? Highway expansion coming thru.
2028. Cull hunt somewhere. To try out a new 404J I have plans on building.

My update

2022 - successful RSA and Namibia Trip. Punched the bull elk tag I drew in NM
2023 - RSA x2, decided to eat the mule deer tag I drew and jump on an end of season Ele hunt that I leave for shortly
2024 - Still hoping to drew either a Moose or Goat Tag in Alaska and some other states. Probably taking a year off from Africa. If I don’t draw anything across the board, I’ll look at Ibex in Spain or Red Deer somewhere.
2025 - Same as 2024 and save so I can do a Sheep on 2026 or 2027 and plan Tuskless for the off year

Being flexible, it’s interesting to look back on and how the plans changed or morphed. Booked a Dall Sheep hunt not long after posting but for a cancellation in 2028 since most outfitters were booking for 2029 and/or 2030.
2024 - Didn’t draw either tag I was hoping, but did a last minute Rhino hunt in December

2025 - Hunted Zambia for their unique endemic Plains Game, and spent a week in the Okavango Delta Fishing

2026 - Had Tuskless in the Zambezi Valley planned for late March/April and two weeks prior to leaving that turned into a Leopard and Non-Trophy Elephant Hunt
Also had Coutada 11 booked for June with Zambeze Delta Safaris to try and finish my Tiny 10 and experience a Cape Buffalo in the swamp (a little over a week out)

The tentative 3 year plan, I’m sure something will derail or alter this ….
2027 - Nothing in stone, trying to be good and pay off 2028’s Dall Sheep/Mountain Caribou Hunt. Maybe get lucky and draw something good out west

2028 - Dall Sheep & Mountain Caribou in NWT

2029 - Nothing planned, but considering either Greenland MuskOx & Caribou or swinging for the fences and planning a Lord Derby Hunt if I behave in 2027. If not this might be the 2030 move/plan

@Mtn_Infantry, who are you doing your sheep/caribou hunt with in the NWT? I did mine in 2021 with Ravens Throat. One of the best hunting experiences of my life. You’re in for an awesome hunt.

Lancaster’s. I was talking with Grizz and Ginger of Raven’s Throat but they were looking at 2030 and had just taken a 30%ish price increase and you weren’t locked in price wise until 3 years out

Well i got my 3 kids out of college and have went on a hunting bender!

2025- Missouri White Tail, Texas White tail
2026- texas, Missouri, kansas white tail. Eastern Cape Africa, Alberta Elk
2027- same white tail, booked another hunt in Eastern Cape, Colorado Mule Deer
2028- SAME WHITETAIL, New Zealand Roar Red Stag and fallow deer. British Columbia Black Bear

I will work in some other stuff as time progresses but for now this is what I have for sure.

2026
May - Just got back from a Namibia PG hunt!
October - Antelope in WY
November - Exotics in TX Hill Country

2027
June - booked with Wanganui Safaris in NZ, whole family going!

2028
September - booked with Zambezi Delta Safaris in Moz for Buff and PG

@Mtn_Infantry, I am glad I went when I did. I couldn’t afford to go for what they are getting now.
A North American Sheep has been my #1 bucket list animal ever since I was 9 or 10 and still is. I view them as the pinnacle of North American Hunting. I question myself all the time, but I also know it’s only going to get more expensive and the only cheaper option I have is moving to Alaska.

When Wyoming changed tag percentages for non residents in 2023 (removed all random draw tags) it pushed me over the edge to just bite the bullet. I stacked back the cash for a deposit and went down the rabbit hole big time. I learned most Canadian outfitters were going to start booking 2029 or 2030 at the 2024 Sheep Show in Jan. Coming off COVID and outside of Alaska it was all Canadian options and there was a couple year backlog + already booked hunters they were trying to navigate. I got very lucky, was told they were going to open their books at Sheep Show in 2024 for their 2029 hunts. I couldn’t make sheep show with a work trip overlapping and was letting him know I was committed and would follow-up the day the show opened to secure a hunt. He called me back almost right away saying dates for 2028 had just opened due to a cancellation (I think they might’ve already pushed dates back a time or two as well) and he offered to let me have the hunt for the prior years price. I didn’t even ask the dates, and told him a check would be in the mail within an hour. Turns out it was also the dates I wanted.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
