I'm looking for a sporterized version of that. If they're not already drilled/tapped, how much trouble would that be for a smith?

Or just go with a rear-mounted aperture like I've seen mounted on the back of the bolt?

It shouldn’t be any big problem for smith to drill and tap. When I had my sporterized 1903 Springfield drilled and tapped, I took the rifle and the scope mount to my gunsmith and he said it made the operation more comfortable for him because it removed variables from the equation.

It looks like most bases that fit a M96 Swedish will also fit the 1893 Spanish. I have a Brazilian 1894 action that I will eventually build something on.

It shouldn't be hard for a good gunsmith to do that. I like the idea above of bringing your mounts along with the rifle to the gunsmith.

Are you looking for one in 7x57 or .308? I ask because a number of these Spanish Mausers were converted to .308 and there has been some discussion on C&R forums on whether they can handle the pressure of a .308.

No problem for a gunsmith to drill and tap. Just discuss the bolt handle clearance with the scope. Although you have a '93 Mauser, re-shaping the handle may be required, as in the case of my 1903A3 Springfield.

7x57. I think the idea of wasting even a sporterized 7x57 on 308W is just silly. To each his own, I suppose.

Yeah, similar issue to the 7.62x54R I had that done to a number of years ago.

Back in the mid to late 70s in Australia you could buy a 93 Spanish Mauser carbine that had been converted to 7.62x51 (308) by the Israeli arsenal and re-proofed to the higher pressure for the poultry sum of $39. Thousands were sold and I never heard of anyone having any issues.
A few were then converted to beautiful light weight 250 Savage and a few were available in the original 7mm Mauser. The 308s with that short barrel and military stock were noisy bastards that kicked like a drunken mule.
I wish I had bought a dozen of them back in the day as originals are bringing 5-600 dollars.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
