As George Peppard (Col. A-Team) would say: I love it when a plan comes together.

I'm going to have to pass. Smuggling a scope and violating U.S. ITAR regulations isn't my idea of a smart thing to do.
I'm just going to be satisfied with letting the air out of the Conquest fanboys' balloons. :D:p

A Conquest does not violate the International Trafficking of Arms Regulations and is not subject to export licensing requirements governed by the DDTC. You wouldn’t even need to obtain an export license from the Dept of Commerce BIS under their Export Administration Regulation.

You’re going to need a sharper needle and do a little more research on US export law and export controls to pop the balloon

For what’s its worth the entire US Munitions List has been completely revamped in the past 24 months..

Winchester doesn’t even have to obtain an ITAR export license for Win 70’s to leave the country from DTTC anymore.. commerce now “owns” non military firearms...

Google “export reform initiative”.. things have been dramatically changing for the past few years and will continue to change for the next few years to come

Now now boys don`t be jumping the gun,`ol HP hasn't responded.

Nove 20th just gone I saw this young stag wind his way into the bush.
They do not come easy these wild deer,I spotted their shapes in open treed country and then parallelled their travel on the opposite side of the creek until I got a tiny bit more light.

He was with three others and the camera is cranked to the shithouse ISO wise as it is believe or not first light.

License needed to export a non-electronic scope?? If some clownette in Washington DC can sell 20% of the US uranium w/o a license, I'm guessing one wouldn't be needed for a scope.

You would think so, but there seems to be a class difference between the Clintons and all of America

You guys are not thinking laterally; think out of the box. Come on realy .. Why carry a conquest scope all the way from the US when you can buy one in Australia when you arrive.. (y) No license required. Happy Hunting.

I’ve got one of the old Conquests, a 3-9x40 with my favorite reticle-German #4. It’s been a great scope and sits on a CZ 550 American 6.5x55. The quality of the Terra is not up to snuff in my book but in my neck of the woods the Conquest HD5 sells well and is well liked. If you judge by the exterior the old Conquest is the same scope as the Cabela’s Euro. I have a MeoPro and it doesn’t look like the old Conquest.

As has already been alluded to I don’t believe the new Conquests were designed for or are marketed as target/competition scopes. For the OP’s purpose I believe a Conquest would be fine.

Mass Media purported facts seem to take on a life of their own. If I were to take the bad Zeiss stories at face value then I’d believe how wonderful Vortex scopes are though of the major brands I’ve seen many more of them fail than any other. I’d also believe the Magic Wedge in my P.F. Flyers I had as a kid made me run faster and jump higher.

WOW!! I think I started something. Thanks for your opinions Guy's.
Hogpatrol if I was you I would take Sambarhunter up on his offer before he changes his mind, thats too good an offer to pass up.
Ray B you got it in one as to the odd long shot for me being 300 -400 yards.
Whilst I am more than capable and have shot much further than that, I am not putting holes in paper or dents in steel, I am hunting Sambar in the bush where a shot can be anywhere between 30yrds and 350yrds.
If I was looking to shoot Deer further than 400yrds I would be looking at a braked .338Lap or UM and a Nightforce or Vortex Razor of suitable magnification but i'm not.
Sambarhunter I know what your rifles and scopes put up with, I trust your opinion and experience in the same environment I will be hunting in, I think I will put that conquest scope on the .338 and give it a go on the tops and in the gully's this Winter see how it fairs, I have a feeling it will do just fine. I might even write up a report on how it pulls up after a year of Sambar hunting, but you will all have to wait for that now wont you.
