Good Evening from a rainy Scotland.

The stags are roaring and I am out for a few days at the end of this week, but my head is in my preparations for South Africa next year.

I have just had word from my firearms dealer that the Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in .375 H&H I ordered from the factory has arrived! Very excited to pick it up shortly, and I have a hundred rounds of factory PPU ammo to shoot to familiarise myself with the rifle.

In the longer term, I am planning to reload for my trip. I read a lot on here and elsewhere about premium bullet preference (eg. Woodleigh weldcores / hydros, swift a frames and breakaway solids, north fork cps, Barnes tsx, CEB Safari Raptors etc) - none of which I am able to track down in the UK! The only “premium” bullets I can find available are the (new stock, bonded) Hornady DGX/DGS.

So my question is for the (admittedly small) UK contingent of the forum - do you either have a surplus of .375 H&H bullets, some of which you would be interested in selling? Or alternatively, a line on any dealers that are importing these products into the UK?

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

Id imagine you could just ship them dont think they are an itsrs or hazmat item. The uk side of things im clueless about

One option being come to sci next year and pick some upbwhile yourbthere

Can you order online?
Grauwolf.

If you are to hunt cape buffalo, Hornady DGX Bonded bullets are plenty good for the purpose.

Reloading solutions
Have a huge catalogue
Was tempted to get a load shipped from them to nz for stuff I can’t get locally

@Red_Stag. Try the Stalking Directory there’s occasionally members there selling 375 bullets etc.

Another one Reloading Solutions!

I wrote a thread on

DGX terminal performance (300grn .375)

which gave a field review of the DGX on Buffalo. Apologies not being able to add a direct link but a quick search should find it.

I’m not in the UK but on July 4th, 2025 I read the BASC press release that stated lead ammo is banned for possession or use in the UK. Is that accurate, or is there an exception for lead ammunition that is intended for use outside of UK by UK citizens? If true, then I think your best legal bullet in the UK would be the 270gr and 300gr Barnes TTSX and TSX and the barnes banded solid.

I purchased Hornady 375 DGX bonded from Reloading Solutions a month ago for my trip to SA at the end of January ‘27.

Thanks for all the input guys - I do keep an active eye on the stalking directory for any lots for sale.

I have had issues in the past with what Reloading Solutions list on their site and what they actually have available (either in stock or on order). I have managed to get a good consistent line in the DGX/DGS (Spud, for anyone else in similar position uk reading this) so sounds like that is the way to go. Appreciate the help as always!

Congrats on your new rifle. What are you looking to hunt on your South Africa trip? My bullet choice would depend on what I was looking to hunt.

I've shot a lot of .375 H&H for animals up to and including cape buffalo, one of the most common rounds recommended by African PH is the 300 grain Barnes TSX, I've also shot a lot of Hornady DGX / DGS (400 grain in .416) and have been very pleased with the overall performance.

If you are in a bind on UK bullet availability, PM me, I'm back and forth between the US and UK every few months, I have quite a few .375 bullet options sitting on the shelf. I used quite a few PPU .375 rounds in Australia for camel culling, they did the job.

Here are some Hornady DGX bonded, 400 grain .416 retrieved from Australian buffalo.

Good evening.

Hornady DGX Bonded is perfectly adequate for Cape buffalo. But I am not particularly fond of Hornady DGS. They break apart sometimes when fired into heavy bones from high velocity calibers.

Thank you! I will PM you if I may.

I plan to use the .375 on large PH and DG (Eland, Cape Buffalo anticipated) so I’m an ideal world would go for something like a swift a frame and a cup point solid (or equivalent from Woodleigh etc)

I have heard a lot of good things about the tsx, and have used it in smaller calibres to great effect on deer over her, but my preference is for a less core bonded bullet. (Very simple and churlish reason - all my bullet choices will be limited to lead-free only in a few short years so I am embracing the variety for as long as I can!)

Hello also from rainy Scotland!

Seconding Edinburgh rifles (call them or stop by, the website is worse than useless) and the stalking directory.
https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/375-new-kynoch-brass-bullet-head-clear-out.335349/

I assume you've got somewhere to work up rounds, but if not, and are in the central belt, then I'd recommend Morton clay targets who have a 100m indoor range just outside Livingston (not a pipe range) where you can practice from sticks etc without the sleet in your eyes.
