Welp, I posted a thread about purchasing this rifle just a few months ago with intentions of taking it to Africa next year for a buffalo, as it would happen I have lucked into a great opportunity at a different rifle for that trip that I cannot pass up, therefore my wife made me promise to sell this rifle to cover the cost.

For sale is a Merkel Double in 416 Rigby. This rifle has 23.5” barrels, 14” LOP to back trigger and 15” LOP to the front trigger. It is fitted with a limb saver recoil pad. Based on my bathroom scale minus my weight it is 11.4 pounds, although it is a cheap scale so + or - a little. This rifle has extractors only. Game scene engraved with Elephant and Rhino. Front sight is a green fiber optic sight installed by previous owner.

I am lucky enough to live an hour from JJ’s shop and when I received the rifle I took it to him and had him mill it for a red dot and he sold me a Trijicon RMR 1MOA mounted to a quick detach plate for it as well. The trijicon will come with the rifle however it isn’t sighted in yet. While also at JJ’s shop he addressed two hairline cracks in the stocks and reinforced them with fiberglass on the inside. I had him do a thorough inspection on it before I shot it and he said it was in great mechanical condition with no issues. There are the normal small handling marks as the previous owner had taken it to Africa a few times.

Upon shooting the rifle for some reason it does not like Barnes brass at all and is stiff to open when shooting it. Federal, Hornady and Norma brass have all been shot without a single issue. I’ve had best luck with factory Federal ammunition loaded with their trophy bonded bear claws, hitting a 4in steel plate at 30 yards off hand almost every time with the iron sights.

Included in the sale price is 6 boxes of factory ammunition, 2 Hornady, 4 federal. I also have some brass to throw in as well. Rifle will be shipped in its pictured padded wooden crate.

Priced at $12,500 with the trijicon, wooden crate, and all ammunition and brass shipped to your FFL in the lower 48(Alaskans can PM me about extra shipping costs). If buyer does not want the ammunition I will sell the package minus the ammunition and brass for $12,000

Happy to answer any and all questions on the rifle, have a FaceTime or phone call. I have nothing to hide on the rifle, I will also offer a 1 week inspection period to make sure my description was accurate with no surprises. Cashiers check would be preferred for payment however personal check will work if you don’t mind waiting for it to clear.

Why must you tempt me :)

I still think of why only barnes brass doesnt work in that beauty... all other brass was fine (yall can find the thread about it). Its a mystery.

I have the exact same problem in my 602 .375HH. Shoots lights out, but will not let me eject the empty. Takes a serious pull to open the bolt. I've only shot Barnes through her and they are very accurate. If you have any advice, I would appreciate it!

Will pm you as to not hi-jack this thread.

Thank you, and please excuse me for butting in. The double is awesome @Noah Hutchens GLWS, Bro!

final price drop, $11,000 for rifle package, $11,500 for full package with ammunition/brass all shipped to your FFL

No I don’t have the target, I’m not the original owner. As I said in the listing it shoots good with factory federal ammunition from my use.

Ammunition is no longer available on this sale, only the package for the Rifle and Red dot is available now for $11,000.

Again, there is 1 week inspection period to make sure rifle Is as described. I will even allow for test firing of factory ammunition to verify functionality if you so wish. If you find the rifle was not as described you will be refunded when I receive the rifle back. Thanks for your consideration.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
