I am having a hard time deciding between these 2 binoculars. They will be used primarily for elephant and buffalo hunting. I hunt with a double rifle so distances are going to be relatively close. I've looked through and handled both binoculars and the Pure wins in image quality and ergonomics. That being said, my brain says the NL Pure is the way to go, however there are times when the range finding option is handy. My go to binoculars for the past several years have been a pair of Swaro 10X42 EL Range, so I'm used to having that option. I don't think I'm going to miss the range finding function in this application. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I have 2 pair of NL’s. As you said, it is the way to go.

The only reason I don’t own a pair of EL Range is the lack of a lifetime warranty.

I just bought NL pure a few months back. I’ve got some Leica rangefinding binos and they’re great for what they are but nothing touches the NL pure’s optics. For what you’re intending to do NL pure is the way to go.

I have owned all the generations of Els and they were a tough act to beat but the NL Pures I bought are better optically and for ergonomics !

I’ve run 10x42 EL Range for a while now and most recent have the TA. I used them last October on a hunt in Northern Zim and loved them as always, but since hunting primarily with a double, I also didn’t use the range feature as often, but still did more out of curiosity.

Rolling into my hunt in Zim/Bots this April, decided I wanted to run a more compact pair and use a strap vs my normal chest rig. Was in the same situation you are now…trying to decide between the compact range and Pure. A buddy had a couple different pair of the pure and loved them, and ultimately went that direction with a pair of the 10x32 Pure (still super respectable field of view). Used them in both countries throughout most of April…and wished I’d brought my 10x42 EL Ranges instead…and my chest rig.

The compact Pure are an awesome optic, but I seriously missed the range function…even just to satisfy my curiosity or confirm my range estimates. I’m so used to having that capability that having it gone was bothersome.

Which is why as I ready to return to Zim in less than two weeks, taking only doubles, no bolt gun at all, so all relatively close quarter hunting…I bought a new pair of 10x32 range last month…and my 10x32 Pures were just listed in the classifieds. They are great glass, so you won’t be displeased with the Pures optically one bit.

8x32’s.

I sold my 10x42 Swaro EL’s for 8x32’s, glad I did…lightweight & does everything I need out to about 500 yards. Hunting or hiking miles and miles everyday, I barely notice them on me. ELs vs Pures, I couldn’t tell you, no experience.
